Objective:To measure the relevant parameters of paravertebral foramen screw(PVFS)of people in Northeastern China in sub-axial cervical spine based on the PACS and investigate the feasibility to lay the foundation for the clinical application in the future.Methods:(1)Subjects:From December 2016 to December 2017,a total of one hundred patients diagnosed with traumatic cervical spine injury or degenerative cervical diseases who underwent cervical spine surgery were selected by chronological order in the department of Orthopedics in General Hospital of Northern Theater Command of People's Liberation Army.It excludes the patients with cervical diseases such as tumor, inflammatory, cervical vertebral fracture or facet fracture and the incomplete cervical CT scanning.(2)Collection of all the patients' basic information and intact cervical CT three-dimensional data: The essential information of these one hundred patients such as gender, age, weight, height, pathologies and BMI were harvested. Then collected all the intact data of patients' three-dimensional cervical CT scanning and all the information was recorded on the Microsoft Excel Sheet.(3)The imaging measurement of paravertebral foramen screw and lateral mass screw of Chinese in sub-axial spine: The imaging data of all the patients' cervical CT scanning was sent to the Picture Archiving and Communication System(PACS)and the entrance point and trajectory of paravertebral foramen screw were determined on this imaging system within the help of relevant references about this novel internal fixation technique. The safe entrance point and exit point of lateral mass screw was confirmed under the guidance of traditional way in previous study. The length of paravertebral foramen screw(PVFS)and lateral mass screw(LMS)of people in Northeastern China in sub-axial spine from C3-6 separately was gauged based on the PACS,then calculated the effective length of lateral mass screw and take all the imaging measurement down on the Microsoft Excel Sheet.(4)statistical analysis: The results of imaging measurement in the Microsoft Excel Sheet were simply organized and were divided into different groups which respectively stands for PVFS,LMS and effective LMS.Data were analyzed by SPSS24.0 software and the independent-samples T test was used to compare the mean value between two groups among the data.Result: The mean safe length of paravertebral foramen screw of cervical spine from C3-6 in Northeastern people measured by three-dimensional CT within the error range of 10°was(12.54±1.16)mm.The mean safe length of paravertebral foramen screw of cervical spine from C3-6 in Northeastern people measured by three-dimensional CT within the error range of 15°was(11.76±1.11)mm.The average length of lateral mass screw in sub-axial cervical spine from C3-6 in Northeastern people measured by three-dimensional CT was(14.58±0.16)mm and it accords with the outcome of previous studies.Besides, the effective length of lateral mass screw in this imaging study was(12.83±1.21)mm.Nevertheless,this present study demonstrated that the length of lateral mass screw is much longer than paravertebral foramen screw and the difference was quite significant(p<0.05).But the practical effective length of lateral mass screw is approximate to paravertebral foramen screw and there was no significant statistical difference(p>0.05)between these two groups. Moreover, the average safe length of paravertebral foramen screw within the error range of 10°was much longer than the error range of 15°in this imaging study, there is significant statistical difference(P(27)0.05).Conclusion: The paravertebral foramen screw fixation in the lower cervical spine applied to people of Northeast China not only has the equivalent length to practical effective length of lateral mass screw, but also possesses reasonable method and safer inserting technique. Therefore,in the light of the study of imaging measurement, paravertebral foramen screw fixation for the sub-axial cervical spine in Northeastern China is a safe and feasible technique to choose and it has the feasibility of clinical application. It might become another option for the fixation of sub-axial cervical spine when lateral mass screw failed. But whether it has a definite clinical feasibility depends on its biomechanical strength research and clinical further research.
