Objective To assess the quality of life in patients with hemifacial spasm(HFS)before and after microvascular decompression surgery(MVD),and to explore the association between the disease state and the health-related quality of life of patients. Methods Clinical data were collected from 224 patients with hemifacial spasm who underwent microvascular decompression surgery at the Department of Neurosurgery,Peking Union Medical College Hospital from 2012 to 2017.The degree of spasm and effect of the operation were evaluated by Cohen grading standard and the quality of life was evaluated by the HFS-8 scale before and after surgery.SPSS 17.? statistical software was used to analyze the data and the correlation. Results According to Cohen grading standard, the average grade was 0.28±0.73 6 months after surgery, which was significantly lower than the level(3.12±0.50)before treatment. The difference was statistically significant(p<0.05).The complete remission rate was 83.9%at 6 months after MVD,the apparent remission rate was 8.9%,the partial remission rate was 4.9%,and the invalid rate was 2.2%.The effective remission rate and the total effective rate of surgery were 92.7%and 97.6%.In this group of patients, the overall HFS-8 score was 2.71 ±3.25 at 6 months postoperatively.Compared with preoperative 18.01 ±4.57 points, the difference was statistically significant(p<0.05),and only the "invalid" patient group was no significant difference in scores before and after surgery(p=0.071).The scores of patients with different strengths of the spasm were significantly improved(p<0.05),Patients with severe spasticity averaged HFS-8.Patients with severe spasticity have a higher average HFS-8 score than patients with moderate or moderate sputum The Pearson correlation coefficient indicates that the HFS-8 score is significantly associated with the strength of the sputum. Conclusion The hemifacial spasm can cause patients with different degrees of craniofacial physiology decline, but also can cause extensive anxiety and social communication disorders.Microvascular decompression is effective in treating hemifacial spasm and can effectively improve the clinical symptoms and quality of life of patients with HFS.The efficacy of MVD surgery is an influencing factor of quality of life.Patients with postoperative improvement in symptoms have different degrees of improvement in their quality of life.Correlation analysis shows that preoperative HFS-8 score results are significantly associated with preoperative spastic strength.
