Objective Analysis of the risk factors of infection in patients with liver failure and the effect of infection on the short-term clinical prognoses of patients with liver failure. Methods Retrospective analysis of the clinical and laboratory data of 278 patients with liver failure in the infectious disease department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Bengbu Medical College from January 2010 to May 2017.According to the infection, the patients with liver failure were divided into the infected group and the non-infected group. The SPSS software was used to analyze whether there are differences between the two groups in clinical and laboratory indexes, and whether the differences are statistically significant. The possible risk factors were screened for Logistic regression analysis, and the recent clinical prognoses of the two groups were analyzed and compared. Results Among 278 patients with liver failure,121 cases were infected, the incidence of infection was 43.53%.While there were 17 cases with multiple infections, accounting for 14.05% of the total infection cases. The data obtained were analyzed for one-way ANOVA via SPSS software package. The results were as follow. The concentration of plasma albumin, prothrombin activity and serum sodium concentration in the infected group were significantly lower than those of the non-infected group. The hospitalization, total serum bilirubin,MELD score,CRP,and alanine aminotransferase in the infected group were significantly higher than those in the non-infected group. The incidence of ascites, hepatic encephalopathy and hyponatremia in the infected group were significantly higher than those in the non-infected group.Logistic regression analysis showed that hospitalization, plasma albumin,MELD score, ascites, hepatic encephalopathy and hyponatremia are the risk factors of infections in patients with liver failure. The rate of treatment failure in the infected group was significantly higher than that in the non-infected group(P=0.046),and the difference was statistically significant. The in-hospital mortality in the infected group was significantly higher than that in the non-infected group(P=0.028),and the difference was statistically significant. The rate of treatment failure in the patients with more than two sites was significantly higher than that of a single site infection(P=0.016),the difference was statistically significant. The more infected sites, the worse the short-term prognosis. Conclusions Infection is a common complication with high incidence in the patients with liver failure. The hospitalization, plasma albumin,MELD score, ascites, hepatic encephalopathy, hyponatremia are risk factors of concurrent infections in patients with liver failure. The short-term prognoses of patients in the infected group is worse than that of the non-infected group. What's more, the more infected sites, the worse the prognoses.
