Objective: To evaluate the effect of cold compress on pain, swelling and bleeding in patients with jaw deformity after operation, and to compare the clinical effect of cold compress mask and traditional cold compress after operation. To explore the effect of different cold compress methods on postoperative pain, swelling and bleeding in patients with maxillofacial deformity, and to seek to alleviate postoperative swelling and pain, improve patients' comfort and facial function recovery, and improve the quality of nursing,so as to provide basis for future clinical practice.Method: This study was a clinical trial. From November 2017 to October 2018,76 patients with maxillofacial deformities who were eligible for oral and maxillofacial surgery in the Stomatological Hospital of Jilin University were randomly selected and divided into experimental group and control group with 38 cases in each group. The experimental group was treated with cold compress mask after orthognathic surgery, while the control group was treated with traditional ice pack after orthognathic surgery. After orthognathic surgery, the patients returned to the recovery room for immediate cold compress, with the exception of different cold compress tools for 48 hours. The local skin condition, routine nursing methods and functional exercises were observed every 1hour.Before cold compress, the pain was assessed by Visual Analogue Scale(VAS).Two fixed positions were used, namely, the distance from the earlobe to the ipsilateral corner of mouth, the lateral canthus to the ipsilateral side.Visual Analogue Scale(VAS)was used to evaluate the pain, swelling value=(distance from earlobe to ipsilateral corner of mouth-distance from cold compress anterior lobe to ipsilateral corner of mouth),swelling value=(distance from canthus to ipsilateral corner of mouth-distance from canthus to ipsilateral corner of mouth before cold compress)to evaluate swelling, and drainage volume in negative pressure drainage tube was evaluated at 24 h and 48 h after operation.Hemorrhage.Result: There was no statistical difference in baseline data before operation between the experimental group and the control group(P>0.05);there was no statistical difference in pain and swelling before ice compress(P>0.05);there was statistical difference in pain, swelling and bleeding between the experimental group and the control group at 24 hours and 48 hours after operation(P<0.05).Conclusion: Maxillofacial cold compress mask has more advantages than traditional cold compress method in relieving pain, swelling and bleeding in the early stage after operation. The use of cold compress mask can relieve pain, reduce swelling and bleeding, improve patients' comfort and facilitate the recovery of oral function.
