Objectives 1.To develop a mindmap-based life review program for Chinese cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.2.To examine the effects of the MBLRP on anxiety and depressive symptoms among Chinese cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. Methods 1.First,the MBLRP was initially developed based on literature, feedbacks of cancer patients and suggestions from the experienced facilitators. Then,a Delphi panel was invited to validate this program. Finally, the feasibility and potential effects of this program were explored in a pilot study with quantitative and qualitative data.2.A convenience sample of 84 participants were recruited from a general hospital in Fujian,China. The eligible participants were randomly assigned to the experimental group(n=40)and the control group(n=44).The participants in the experimental group received the MBLRP plus the routine care. The subjects in the control group received the routine care.Outcomes were measured at the baseline and immediately after the MBLRP with SAS,SDS.Both the intention-to-treat analysis and pre-protocal were employed to compare the differences in SAS and SDS between the two groups. Results 1.MBLRP contained 4 sessions including childhood and adolescence, adulthood, cancer experience, and summary of important experiences. Each session involved in mind maps, albums and videos.Mindmaps were introduced for facilitating a whole interview session or negative events. The albums aimed to evoke participants' memories. It was packed with photos, which present common experiences and public memories for a cohort of people. The videos embodying Taoistic thought and Chinese traditional cultivation culture enabled participants to easily pick up life and death. An e-legacy product with text, photos, and music was made for each participant. The feasibility study found that the scores of anxiety and depression showed an overall decline trend after the participants received the MBLRP.Three categories about perceptions of the MBLRP were identified: express acceptability of the program;enjoy myself in the program;and benefit from the program.2.Regarding SAS,the ITT analysis demonstrated that there was a significant difference(t=4.090,P<0.001)between the experimental group and the control group at the post-test.The experimental group showed a significant decrease in anxiety symptoms(t=5.166,P<0.001)after the program, and no significance difference(t=-0.727,P>0.05)was found in the control group. The results of PP analysis was in line with the ITT analysis. As for SDS,the ITT analysis demonstrated that there's a significant difference(Z=-4.716,P<0.001)between the experimental group and the control group at post-test.The experimental group showed a significant decrease in depressive symptoms(Z=-4.480,P<0.001)after the intervention, and no significance difference(Z=-1.881,P>0.05)was found in the control group. The results of PP analysis was in line with the ITT analysis. Conclusions 1.The MBLRP is enjoyable, acceptable and feasible among Chinese cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.2.The MBLRP can reduce the anxiety and depressive symptoms of cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. It could be integrated into continuing nursing care to enhance the psychological well-being of cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.
