Objective To analyze the cause and clinical characteristics of 80 patients with optic disc edema Methods The clinical data of 80 patients who with optic disc edema were admitted to the neurology center of the general hospital of ningxia medical university from 2013 to 2017 were retrospectively anal yzed, and their clinical characteristics were summarized according to the etiology cl assification. Results 80 patients with optic disc edema are included in this study, among them,36 were males(44.00%),and 44 females(56.00%).The median age of the patients was 39.9±15.0years,with a range of 5-77 years.intracranial mass lesion 29 cases(36.25%),cerebrovascular disease 13 cases(16.25%),head trauma 9 cases(11.25%),intracranial infection 8 cases(10.00%),eye disease and orbital disease 8cases(10.00%),idiopathic intracranial hypertension(IIH)3 cases(3,75%),papilloedema of unknown cause10 cases(12.50%).Intracranial tumors included meningioma 9 cases(3 1.03%),sellar region8 cases(27.59%),tumors of neuroepithelial tissue 5 cases(17.24%),brain metastases 4 cases(13.79%);central neurocytoma 1case and acoustic neuroma 1 case. The most common part of lesions were saddle area among 28 cases of intracranial tumor, with 10 cases(30%),followed by occipital lobe and temporal lobe, all of which were 6 cases, accounting for 18%.Venous sinus thrombosis is the most common cause of cerebrovascular disease, with a total of 10 cases, accounting for 76%.There were 37 cases with eye s ymptoms in 80 patients, the most common sign was blurred vision,25 cases.Headache is the most common symptom among other clinical feature,36 cases, accounting for 45%.In addition,20 patients had unilateral optic disc edema, and the remaining 5 0 cases were bilateral papilledema. Conclusion The causes of patients with optic disc edema from neurology center are intracranial lesion, cerebrovascular disease, head trauma, intracranial infection, eye disease and orbital disease, idiopathic intracranial hypertension. In clinical work,it is necessary to pay attention to the optic disc edema that occurs independently or with other symptoms, and seek for the cause actively to avoid tomisdiagnosis.
