Objectives Study the correlation between NLR and the severity of depression and explore the predictive value of NLR for depression and major depression. Methods Eighty depressive patients were divided into three groups according to the Hamilton Depression Scale(24 items)score: 8 to 20 were divided into mild depressive group,20 to 35 were classified as moderate depressive group and >35 were classified as severe depressive group.240 normal healthy people were the control group.Depression group treated with Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor(SSRI)after admission and the control group was not treated. The blood routine of the depression group was measured at admission,4 weeks,8 weeks and the control group.NLR was calculated according to the number of blood cells in the blood routine.SPSS 20.0 was used for statistical analysis of data.Measurement data were compared using independent sample t-test and one-way analysis of variance.Count data were compared using Chi-square test or Fisher's exact probability method;Depression group's relationship between depression severity and NLD was performed by Spearman Correlation analysis;ROC curve to determine the best NLR threshold to predict depression and major depression. Results 1 The level of depression in NLR was higher than that in control group and the difference was statistically significant(t=6.209,P<0.05).2 The best critical point for NLR prediction of depression was 1.65.When NLR was greater than 1.65 the prediction of depression was significant. The sensitivity was 0.58 and the specificity was 0.85.3 NLR in mild moderate and severe depression group, severe depression group was higher than moderate depression group, severe depression group was higher than mild depression group, moderate depression group was higher than mild depression group. The difference was statistically significant(P<0.05)4 The depression severity was positively correlated with the NLR level in the depression group(r=0.460).The results were statistically significant(P<0.05).5 The best critical point of NLR for the prediction of severe depression was 2.13.When the NLR was greater than 2.13 the sensitivity for predicting major depression was 0.60 and the specificity was 0.83.6 The NLR comparison of the depression group before treatment,4 week treatment and 8 week treatment: 4 weeks after treatment was lower than before treatment and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05);8 weeks after treatment was lower than before treatment and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05);there was no significant difference between 8 weeks after treatment and 4 weeks after treatment. Conclusions 1.Compared with the healthy group, patients with depression have a high inflammatory response.2.The higher the degree of inflammation, the higher the degree of depression.3.After treatment of antidepressant medications, the inflammatory response in patients with depression eases and antidepressants have a certain antiinflammatory response effect.4.NLR has certain predictive value for the diagnosis of depression and the severity of depression.
