| Purpose:To investigate the effect of acupuncture combined with dynamic moxibustion and cupping on the lumbar intervertebral disc herniation and to compare it with the treatment of only acupuncture and cupping.Methods:According to the inclusion criteria,a total of 67 patients were included in this study-36 patients diagnosed with lumbar disc herniation(LDH)were assigned to the treatment group receiving acupuncture for 30 minutes,then dynamic moxibustion for 15 minutes and at last cupping for 10 min.The patients completed a course of treatment of 10 times set by three times a week(alternated days).The control group was composed of 31 LDH patients receiving only acupuncture for 30 min and then cupping for 10 min.The acupuncture,dynamic moxibustion and cupping treatment followed the standard plan of selected points according to the syndrome differentiation and the symptoms manifested by the patient.Patients were evaluated before and after the course of treatment by the VAS pain assessment Score and Oswestry CODI low back pain questionnaire.Additionally,the straight leg raising test(Lasegue's sign)was added as a complementary test.Data were analyzed by the statistics program SPSS 20 to calculate and compare the efficacy rate.Results:The results in Lasegue's test before and after treatment in the treatment group show that before treatment there are no significant differences between the observed(x2=0.51 p=0.47)(p>0.05).After treatment,94.4%of the patients presented a negative Lasegue's sign and the chi-square test revealed highly significant statistical differences(x2=62.23 p=0.00)(p<0.01).Regarding the control group,before treatment there are also no significant differences between the observed and expected values(x2=3.38 p=0.07)(p>0.05).After treatment,87.1%of the patients presented a negative Lasegue's sign,and the chi-square test showed highly significant statistical differences between the observed and expected values(x2=43.10 p=0.00)(p<0.01).Regarding the results on Visual Analogue Scale(VAS)for the treatment group(Z=-5.31 p=0.00)and control group(Z=-4.92 p=0.00)the results show there are highly significant statistical differences(p<0.01)in both groups,comparing before and after treatment.When comparing both groups before and after treatment,the results show there are no significant statistical differences between groups after treatment(Z=-1.27 p=0.21).The analysis of the Chinese version of Oswestry low back pain questionnaire(CODI)before and after treatment revealed averages of 37.48%± 17.02%and 11.07%± 9.60%in the treatment group,respectively.About the lower back pain questionnaire(CODI)in the control group they show an average 42.48%±18.60%before treatment and 17.47%±12.62%after treatment.The results showed highly significant differences(p<0.01)before and after treatment in both groups.After treatment,the results(t=2.35 p=0.02)demonstrate significant statistical differences(p<0.05)between treatment and control group.The control group efficiency rate was 87.10%and for the treatment group was 94.44%.When comparing the efficacy of control and treatment groups,chi-square test results(x2=6.78 p=0.03)reveal significant statistical differences(p<0.05)between them.Moreover,the effectiveness rate between treatment and control group also reveals significant statistical differences(p<0.05)between them.Conclusion:The results provided here can confirm the clinical effect of the combination of dynamic moxibustion combined with acupuncture and cupping on the treatment of lumbar disc herniation.The results also confirm the efficacy of the acupuncture combined with cupping treatment of the lumbar back pain induced by LDH.The treatment using dynamic moxibustion combined with acupuncture and cupping reveals superior results.Thus,the combined treatment between dynamic moxibustion,acupuncture and cupping seem to have a better effect than using only acupuncture and cupping.The clinical application of dynamic moxibustion is worthy when combined with acupuncture and cupping treatment. |
