Objective: The correlation between the expression level of miR-21 and the prognosis in non-small cell lung cancer(non-small cell lung cancer,NSCLC)patients was evaluated by meta-analysis.Methods: we searched PubMed ? EMBASE ? Web of Science ? NIH database ?Cochrane Library database and the Chinese database for studies analyzing the prognostic value of miR-21 in NSCLC.According to the workflow of the meta-analysis,literature was refined and related data was extracted and analyzed.Hazard ratio(HR)and 95% confidence interval(confidence interval,CI)were used to synthesize data for quantitative synthesis. The collection of HR and 95% CI in overall study and each subgroup, heterogeneity and funnel plot were completed by RevMan5.3 software. Results: 253 papers were identified,of which 200 were repeated.By reading the titles, abstracts and keywords of the remaining 53 articles,we excluded 30 irrelevant studies.By eliminating the documents with incomplete data or data errors,7 documents can be used for further analysis.Pooled HR suggested that High expression of miR-21 in lung cancer tissue was negatively correlated with prognosis in NSCLC patients(HR=2.40,95%CI =0.98~5.89,P=0.06).Pooled HR suggested that High expression of miR-21 in plasma was negatively correlated with prognosis in NSCLC patients(HR=2.23,95%CI =1.58~3.16,P<0.05).Low expression of miR-21 in lung cancer tissue was negatively correlated with prognosis in NSCLC patients with positive lymph node metastasis(HR=2.03,95%CI =1.09~3.78,P<0.05).Conclusions: The abnormal expression of miR-21 has the potential to predict prognosis in NSCLC.
