Objective: To evaluate the aging characteristics of periodontal pain and occlusal function over time in patients with fixed appliance via Transcutanous Acupoint Electrical Stimulation(TEAS),and to investigate the clinical application of TEAS.Methods: According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria,100 volunteers who were admitted to the Affiliated Hospital of Guizhou Medical University were randomly assigned to the experimental group and the control group according to the order of the outpatient treatment. Each group of 50 patients were treated with MBT(3B)Straight wire appliance correction technique for orthodontic treatment. In the control group,no intervention was given except for orthodontic treatment. In the experimental group,TEAS intervention was performed at 1 d,2 d,4 d,6 d and 8 d after orthodontic treatment. The spontaneous pain score(SO-VAS),bite pain score(BO-VAS),(MT),the number of chewing efficiency(ME)and occlusion(T-scan III,and occlusal analyzer)of two groups of volunteers in each time point before and after orthodontic(0d)and orthodontic treatment were recorded separately. And the trend of change among indexes was analyzed. Results: 1,The degree of pain and chewing dysfunction(MT,ME decreased)reached its peak for Wearing a fixed appliance on the first day. After a few days the pain feeling gradually decreased or disappeared, until the 8d function is gradually restored, but not before the level of treatment, all the time points showed statistically significant differences P <0.05.2,Compared with the control group, the experimental group and the control group had similar trend of pain change and occlusal function, and the overall score of SO-VAS and BO-VAS in the experimental group was lower than that in the control group,SO-VAS score in the first1 d,6d were statistically significant,P ? 0.05,BO-VAS in the first 4 days after treatment were statistically significant,P <0.05;MT,ME and MF in the experimental group were higher than those in the control group at all time points, only MT on the first day,ME in the sixth day difference was statistically significant,P <0.05;Pain differences and functional changes of two groups were significant in the first 4 days after orthodontics, and then the difference was gradually decreased with the passage of time.3,Both groups of OT were decreased after 2d with time, and in addition to the first 1d and 8d experimental group lower than the control group, the rest of the time point was higher than the control group, and there was no significant difference between the two groups(P> 0.05);The DT in experimental group was lower than the control group 2 days before treatment, and then higher than the control group, only the first day of the difference was statistically significant,P <0.05;The differences of OT and DT between the two groups did not show obvious time variation.Conclusion:1,Fixed orthodontic pain early peak changes, and self limited, eighth days after treatment has been recovered, but the occlusal function is less than the pre-treatment level.2,TEAS on the occlusal pain effect is better than that of spontaneous pain.3,TEAS has significant effect in relieving orthodontic pain and improving occlusaldysfunction in the peak of pain.
