Objective: To seek for an effective and safe non-resection adjuvanttherapy in the context of increasing cases with thyroid nodules and rising detection rate of tubercles;to explore the effectiveness of microwave ablation in the treatment of thyroid adenoma;to observe the therapeutic advantages of microwave ablation as a minimally invasive procedure in terms of postoperative trauma, complications and pain degree. Methods: Eligible patients with thyroid adenoma, who were admitted to Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu University of TCM from 2015 to 2016,were randomly divided into two groups, which underwent microwave ablation and surgical resection respectively.Postoperative indicators of two groups, including tumor shrinking rate, thyroid function, neutrophil count,C-reactive protein, complications and pain degree, were recorded and submitted for statistical analysis. Results: The total effective rate at 6 months after microwave ablation was 92%.The microwave ablation group exhibited a minimally invasive advantage in terms of postoperative trauma, thyroid function protection and pain degree and demonstrated astatistically significant difference compared with the surgical group(P<0.05).No complications were reported in either group. Conclusion: Microwave ablation of thyroid adenoma is featured by high effectiveness as well as minimally invasive and safe treatment.
