Esophageal cancer is the eighth most common gastrointestinal malignancy in global.Surgical resection is still the most effective treatment for early and mid-term esophageal cancer, while esophagectomy is a complex project, involving esophagectomy, esophagogastric anastomosis, and lymph node dissection, associated with significant morbidity and mortality.Advances in minimally invasive techniques have greatly enchanted the safety and effectiveness of the surgery.Although the robotic assisted minimally invasive esophagectomy is relatively new and remains controversial, numerous researches have demonstrated that robotic-assisted esophagectomy is comparable to conventional minimally invasive surgery in short-term efficacy. In spite of its direct clinical benefits to patients is not clear, the application of Da Vinci surgical assistance system makes the entire procedure comfortable and has shown some advantages. In general, robotic assisted minimally invasive esophagectomy(RAMIE)is safe and feasible and randomized controlled trials are urgently required to demonstrate the medium-long term efficacy.
