Abstract/Summary:
Objective:The relationships between dietary factors and bone mass in female college students were examined.Methods:This study is a cross-sectional study with multistage sampling method.384 female college students in Hebei province were asked to complete a self-report questionnaire on demographic characteristics,physical characteristics and dietary/lifestyle habits and assessed dietary nutrient intakes using 24 h food records.Dietary patterns were assessed through exploratory factor analysis.The bone mineral density was measured by the quantitative ultrasonography.Results:1 Among the female college students in medical university who were investigated,the proportion of low bone mass was 26.8%.2 After adjusted for confounding factors,statistically significant positive relationship existed between the intake of selenium and SOS(P=0.041,B=-0.880).After logistic regression analysis,The intake of phosphorus has significant relationship with low bone mass(P=0.028,B=0.202).3 After adjusted for confounding factors,the intake frequency of snacks showed a significant relationship with SOS(P=0.029,B=-0.443).There were significant relationships between fungi and algae(P=0.045,B=-0.189),snacks(P=0.049,B=0.188),beverage(P=0.030,B=0.213)intake frequency and low bone mass,respectively.4 After adjusted for confounding factors,the factor score of snacks dietary pattern was negatively related with SOS(P=0.036,B=-12.474).Conclusions:1 High intake of phosphorus can lead to bone loss.2 Fungi and algae are the protective factors for bone mass.3 Snacks and beverage are risk factors for low bone mass.4 Snacks dietary pattern may lead to a drop in bone mass.
