| Objective: To compare satisfaction and psychosocial well-being of patients undergoing immediate breast reconstruction with latissimus dorsi myocutaneous flap(LDMF)with a silicone prosthesis with or without immediate nipple-areola complex(NAC)reconstruction.Methods: A retrospective review was performed for patients who underwent immediate breast reconstruction with latissimus dorsi myocutaneous flap with a silicone prosthesis from July 2013 to April 2017.Patients were divided into two groups depending on undergoing immediate nipple-areola complex reconstruction or not.We requested the patients to completed BREAST-Q questionnaire,got the scores to compare their satisfaction and psychosocial well-being.Assessment of patient satisfaction with the new nipple-areola was recorded by visual analogue scoring(VAS;0-10),and the higher the score,the higher the satisfaction.Results: In total,35 of 40 patients completed the questionnaire.14 patients underwent immediate nipple-areola complex reconstruction and 21 did not.Patients with immediate nipple-areola complex reconstruction had significantly higher satisfaction with reconstructed breast compared to patients without nipple-areola reconstruction,and the difference was statistically significant(72.50 ± 6.04 vs 62.14 ± 3.77,P?0.001).The difference of score for psychosocial well-being between the two groups was statistically significant(76.50 ± 7.30 vs 61.62 ± 5.69,P?0.001).For the new nipple-areola,patients reported a mean VAS of 8.4 with position,,8.0 with size,7.4with projection,6.9 with color and 5.3 with sensation.Conclusion: Patient satisfaction with reconstructed breast and psychosocial well-being can be improved after undergoing immediate nipple-areola complex reconstruction following immediate breast reconstruction with latissimus dorsi myocutaneous flap with a silicone prosthesis.Patients are highly satisfied with the new nipple-areola. |
