Objecrive:To observe the effect of thermal softening of double-lumen endotracheal tubes?DLTs?on postoperative sore throat and hoarseness. Methods:One hundred and forty patients with ASA physical status I-III and scheduled for selective thoracoscopic pulmonary lobectomy were enrolled. The Patients were divided into the thermal softening group?group T,n=70?and the control group?group C,n=70?.The DLT in group T were immersed in warm saline?40°C?for 10 min, while the other group in saline?23°C?at room temperature respectively. After induction of anesthesia, the DLT was intubated. The parameters were recorded as follows:1.Indicators related to intubation variables:size of DLT,the number of intubion attempts, completion time of insertion,Cormack and Lehane score, the cases of insertion side-inverted and duration of intubation;2.The incidence and severity of sore throat at 24 hours?M1?,48 hours?M2?,and 72 hours?M3?after extubation were evaluated by visual analogue scale?VAS?;3.The incidence and severity of hoarseness at 24 hours?M1?,48 hours?M2?,and 72 hours?M3?after extubation were evaluated by linear analog self rating scale?LASA?;4.The severity ofhoarseness at 24 hours?M1?,48 hours?M2?,and 72hours?M3?after extubation was evaluated by measuring the noise of the fundamental frequency?Jitter?using praat software.Results:1.There were no statistically significant difference between the two groups in age, sex, height,BMI and Smoking history?P>0.05?.2.There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in the Side of surgery, the size of DLT,the direction of DLT,attempts number of tintubion, ime of insertion,Cormack and Lehane score, the cases of insertion side-inverted and duration of intubation?P>0.05?;3.The incidence of sore throat and the AVS score at 24h after extubation in the A group significantly lower than the B group, the difference was statistically significant?P<0.05?;4.The incidence of hoarseness and LASA score of group A at the time M1 to M3 after extubation were lower than those in group B,but the difference was not statistically significant?P>0.05?.5.There was no significant difference in the Jitter value between the two groups at M0 time?P?0.05?;6.The jitter value of group A at the time M1 to M3 after extubation was lower than that in group B,but the difference was not statistically significant?P>0.05?.Conclusion:Tracheal intubation with thermally softened DLTs candecrease the incidence of postoperative sore throat, but there were no significant effects on the incidence of postoperative hoarseness.
