Objective:To understand the relationship between Epstein-Barr virus infection and HSP and to increase the importance of EBV infection in children with Henoch-Schonlein purpura in order to explore the pathogenesis of HSP.Methods:A case-control study was used.selected children with Henoch-Schonlein purpura(HSP)was diagnosed at the First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University and selected healthy children with no history of drug use and no history of illness from the school, was used to detect the EBV-DNA load in the whole blood and feces of the selected individuals. The fecal EBV-DNA load was detected by real-time PCR in 30 acute and 28 recovery children with HSP,and 27 normal children. The whole blood EBV-DNA load was detected by real-time PCR in 34 acute children with HSP and 44 normal children. The statistical methods are used to test and process count data.RESULTS:1.The results of detected EBV-DNA load in the feces:The positive rate of EBV-DNA load in normal children, acute and recovery children with HSP is 14.81%,53.33%and 39.29%,respectively.There are statistically significance among the three groups, between normal children and acute or recovery children with HSP,but there are not statistical significance between the acute and recovery children with HSP.2.The results of detected EBV-DNA load in the blood:The positive rate of EBV-DNA load in normal children and acute children with HSP is 22.7%and 64.7%.There are statistical significance between the two groups.3.At the acute phase of the same children with HSP,The detected EBV-DNA load in whole blood is significantly higher than that in the feces.4.The acute children with HSP have more than 1x103 copies/ml of EBV-DNA detected in whole blood. Conclusion:The bloody and fecalEBV-DNA load in children with HSP is higher than that in normal children. It is suggested that Epstein-Barr virus infection may be closely related to morbidity, recurrence and intractable conditions of HSP.EBV-DNA load in the blood is higher than that in the feces in children with HSP.It is suggested that EBV-DNA quantification in whole blood was better and more practice than that in the feces in children with HSP.
