A Sampling Survey For Serum Positive Rate Of Anti-hev IgG In The Students Of Guangxi Senior High Schools And Middle Vocational Schools

Objective To analyze the epidemic characteristics of anti-HEV IgG of the high school students in Guangxi,get hold of the epidemic trend so as to determine whether there is a need for vaccination by concentration and large scale to prevent hepatitis E epidemic in this population.The results will provide a strong scientific basis for the government to formulate control strategy and measures for HEV infection.Methods Serum samples were collected from 5,345 senior high school students from Yulin,Nanning,Baise,Guilin and Liuzhou,through a stratified,random,multi-stage,cluster,sampling.Anti–HEV IgG was tested with ELISA.Besides,questionnaire survey was conducted in 2,654 students.Logistic regression model was used to analyze the risk factors of HEV infection.Results The seroprevalence of anti-HEV IgG of senior high school students in Guangxi had a very low rate of only 5.1%.There were 2.9% to 7.7% of HEV antibody rates between difference regions.Among them Baise was the highest(7.7%),Nanning was the lowest(2.9%).There was significant difference among different ethnic groups(p<0.01).Moreover anti HEV-IgG positive rate of rural students was higher than urban students(p<0.05).In addition,HEV antibody prevalence of male(3.1%)was lower than female(5.9%)(p<0.01).Multivariatelogistic regression analyses showed that the family histories of hepatitis(OR:3.062,CI: 2.163 ~ 4.337,P=0.000),annual income of households(OR:1.848,CI: 1.337 ~ 2.553,P=0.000),drinking-water sources(OR:2.460,CI: 1.771~3.416,P=0.000)were high risk factors for HEV.Conclusion The seroprevalence of anti-HEV in high school students in Guangxi province is very low.The results suggest a high risk of outbreak of hepatitis E in this population.Hence we recommend to implement HEV vaccine by concentration and large-scale in the 16 to 20 age groups.In order to improve herd immunity,national authorities may consider the HEV vaccine to be incorporated into the planned immunization.
