[objective]:Hyperlipidemia has a close relationship with subclinical atherosclerosis, and adropin is reduced in the patients with hyperlipidemia, the relationship between adropin and subclinical atherosclerosis was still unknown. We aimed to evaluate adropin in hyperlipidemic patients and assess association between adropin and subclinical carotid atherosclerosis.[methods]:Selected consecutively from February 2015 to August 2017 in our department and hospitalized patients with dyslipidemia and negative patients. All patients underwent an anterior elbow vein puncture at 12 hours after fasting in the fasting condition, and fasting blood was collected.Serum Adropin levels were measured by Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. All patient's bilateral carotid IMT was measured by using a universal diagnostic instrument's linear array probe(7.5 MHz).[Results]:A total of 240 patients were enrolled, including 170 patients with hyperlipidemia and 70 patients without hyperlipidemia as a control group.170 patients with hyperlipidemia were divided into subclinical carotid atherosclerosis group(n=102)and no subclinical carotid atherosclerosis group(n = 68).Subclinical atherosclerosis was defined as an arterial intima-media thickness(IMT)? 0.9 mm and/or with arterial plaques but no clinical manifestations.Adropin levels were lower in the hyperlipidemia group than in the control group(3.63±1.92 ng/ml vs 5.16±2.52 ng/ml,P<0.001).The levels of adropin in the subclinical carotid atherosclerosis group were lower than no subclinical carotid atherosclerosis group(3.19±1.52 ng/ml vs 4.29±2.26 ng/ml,P <0.001).c IMT was positively correlated with TC(r = 0.16,P = 0.03),LDL-C(r = 0.15,P = 0.04)and negatively correlated with Adropin(r =-0.16,P = 0.04).Binary logistic regression was used to calculate the correlation between adropin and other factors of subclinical atherosclerosis.BMI(OR=1.13,95% CI: 1.01 to 1.26,P=0.03),TC(OR=2.08,95% CI: 1.26 to 3.42,P=0.004),LDL-C(OR=1.95,95% CI: 1.06 to 3.60,P=0.033),adropin(OR=0.71,95% CI: 0.57 to 0.87,P=0.02)showed an independent association with subclinical carotid atherosclerosis in patients with hyperlipidemia..[Conlusion]:Adropin was significantly decreased in patients with hyperlipidemia and c IMT had linear correlation with adropin and TC,LDL-C.In hyperlipidemia patients, the adropin value was an independent biomarker associated with subclinical carotid atherosclerosis.
