Objective: To investigate whether inflammation plays an important role in the development of secondary restless legs syndrome(RLS)in peritoneal dialysis patients. Methods: A total of 56 patients(male=27,female=29)diagnosed with secondary RLS were collected in our dialysis center. We performed a 1:1 case-control study by matching the patients' age, gender,BMI,and dialysis duration.Patients were divided into RLS group(56 cases)and non-RLS group(56 cases).Parameters of whole blood count, biochemical data,iron-associated and dialysis-associated parameters were compared between the two groups.Risk factors for RLS were also analyzed by Logistic regression. The ROC curve of neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio(NLR)and CRP were also made. Results: The values of NLR,CRP,PCT,folic acid and PTH were significant higher in the RLS group(P<0.05).The logistic regression analysis demonstrated that NLR and PTH were risk factors of RLS,with the likelihood ratio of 2.389(95% CI 1.589-3.592)and 1.018(95%CI 1.005-1.030)respectively.The AUCs of the ROC curve for NLR and CRP were 0.805(95% CI 0.727-0.883,P < 0.001)and 0.698(95% CI 0.602-0.795,P < 0.001).The optimal value of NLR for the diagnosis of uremia RLS was 3.21,with a sensitivity of 64.3% and specificity of 80.8%.Conclusion:1.NLR,CRP,folic acid and PTH were significantly higher in the non-restless leg syndrome group compared with the RLS group.2.The results showed that only NLR and PTH were main risk factors of peritoneal dialysis RLS.3.NLR can be used to predict the occurrence of uremia RLS.
