Objective:1.To investigate the mental health status of inpatients with hematologic malignancies and its difference with other malignant tumors inpatients and non-cancer inpatients.2.To explore the relationship between mental health status, gratitude and perceived social support in inpatients with hematologic malignancies.3.To study the effect of painting therapy on mental health status in inpatients with hematologic malignanciesStudy 1:Mental health status and its relationship with gratitude and perceived social support in inpatients with hematologic malignanciesMethods:The Mental Status Scale in Non-psychiatric Setting(MSSNS),Perceived Social Support Scale(PSSS)and Gratitude Questionnaire-6(GQ-6)were used to investigate 566 inpatients in three large general hospitals of Shandong province. The subjects were divided into three groups:non-cancer group, other malignant, tumor group and hematologic malignant group. The single factor analysis of variance were used to compare the difference of mental health status in different groups.Spearman's rank correlation and the structural equation models were built to explore the relationship between mental health status, gratitude and perceived social support. Results:The scores of anxiety, depression and loneliness in inpatients with hematologic malignancies and inpatients with other malignant tumor were higher than those in non-cancer inpatients. The difference of anger was not statistically significant among these groups.Compared with inpatients with other malignant tumor group, the scores of loneliness in inpatients with hematologic malignancies was significantly higher. The results of structural equation model showed that gratitude played a mediating role in the relationship of perceived social support and mental health status.Study 2:Effects of painting therapy on mental health status in inpatients with hematologic malignanciesMethods:Subjects from research one were randomly assigned to 2 groups:intervention group and control group.Subjects in control group received usual health education, while the intervention group was treated with painting therapy intervention plus usual health education. The period of the intervention lasted 5 days for each patient. Each patient received two sessions of interventions and about 40 minutes each time.In order to investigate the effectiveness of intervention on painting therapy, all subjects received evaluation before and after the intervention. The evaluation instruments consisted of the Mental Status Scale in Non-psychiatric Setting(MSSNS),Perceived Social Support Scale(PSSS)and Gratitude Questionnaire-6(GQ-6).Results:1.The baseline data of two groups were similar before intervention.Compared with the control group, the scores of depression and loneliness in intervention group were significantly lower and the scores of perceived social support and gratitude were significantly higher after intervention. The differences in anxiety and anger between the two groups were not significant after intervention.2.The scores of anxiety, depression, anger and loneliness in intervention group were significantly lower and the scores of perceived social support and gratitude were significantly higher than those in pre-intervention.The scores of all variables in control group were not significantly different than those in pre-intervention.Conclusions:1.Compared with non-cancer inpatients, inpatients with hematological malignancies show obvious anxiety, depression and loneliness.Compared with other malignant tumor inpatients, inpatients with hematological malignancies have higher level of loneliness.2.Gratitude acts as the mediator in the relationship between perceived social support and mental health status.3.Painting therapy can significantly improve the level of perceived social support and gratitude, relieve depression and loneliness in inpatients with hematologic malignancies.
