Objective To observe effect of enhanced external counterpulsation on exercise tolerance and cardiac function in patients with coronary heart disease.Method Eighty patients with coronary heart disease who met the inclusion criteria were randomly divided into EECP group(n=40)and control group(n=40).The control group was given conventional drug treatment, and the EECP group was treated with external counterpulsation twice daily for 30 minutes each time on the basis of conventional drug treatment. The total treatment time was 20 hours. The cardiopulmonary function index of anaerobic threshold(AT),peak oxygen uptake(peak VO2),peak oxygen pulse, peak metabolic equivalents(METs),cardiac ultrasound index left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF)and 6 minutes walking distance(6MWD)changes were observed before and after the tretment.ResultsCompared with pre-treatment: anaerobic threshold(11.74±2.38)vs(13.53±2.19),peak oxygen uptake(16.27±3.01)vs(18.69±2.86),peak oxygen pulse(9.81±2.75)vs(11.57±2.29),peak metabolic equivalent(4.92±0.98)vs(5.71±0.93),left ventricular ejection fraction(52.20±6.39)vs(55.65±6.10),and 6 minute walking distance(396.05±30.28)vs(421.00 ±30.24),values were higher than before, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05);after treatment in the control group, the anaerobic threshold was(11.65±2.12)vs(12.23±2.37),peak oxygen uptake(15.92±2.93)vs(16.67±2.81),peak oxygen pulse(9.89±2.44)vs(10.16±2.34),peak metabolic equivalent(4.82±1.00)vs(4.98±0.94),and 6-minute walking distance(390.62±30.24)vs(397.10± 29.96).The mean value was higher than before, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the mean value of left ventricular ejection fraction(50.32±7.42)vs(51.22±7.02)(P>0.05).After treatment, the anaerobic threshold, peak oxygen uptake, peak oxygen pulse, peak metabolic equivalent, and 6-minute walking distance in the EECP group were significantly higher than before treatment, and there was a statistically significant difference compared with the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion EECP can improve cardiopulmonary function of patients with coronary heart disease and improve exercise tolerance.
