Objective:COPD is an inflammatory disease with major co-mor bidities.Patients with COPD have evidence of systemic inflam-mation,measured either as increased circulating cytokines, chemokines and acute phase proteins,or as abnormalities in circulating cells.Anxiety, depression and fatigue the most distress-ing symptoms of this illness which significantly impairs both functional performance and quality of life. The purpose of this study was to examine the symptoms of anxiety, depression and fatigue and explore their relationships to systemic inflammation in patients with clinically stable COPD.Methods:This was a prospective and cross-sectional study.A convenience sample of 120 patients with stable COPD completed self-report questionnaires which measured dimensions of fatigue using the Fatigue Scale-14(FS-14),anxiety and depression using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale(HADS).Venous blood samples were obtained before the exercise test to measure the CRP,IL-6T,NF-a,WBC,ESR.The multivariate linear and binary regression analyses were used to examine the association of inflammation factors with depression or fatigue.Data were entered into SPSS software version 13.0 to statistical analysis. Results:A multivariate linear model of all inflammation factors showed that CRP had a positive correlation with anxiety and depression on score(p<0.01).TNF-a,WBC had a significantly correlation with depression score(p<0.01),while had a Light correlation with anxiety.Furth ermore,CRP had a Light correlation with Mental Fatigue score(r=0.386,p<0.05),TNF-?,IL-6 had a significantly correlation with Physical and Mental Fatigue score. Conclusion:This study indicates that anxiety, depression and fatigue were experienced by almost patients with clinically stable COPD.The correlation of different degree among inflammation factors and the three co-morbidities(anxiety,depression and fatigue)...
