OBJECTIVE: To investigate the clinical value of ultrasound-guided paravertebral nerve block for patients undergoing laparoscopic radical gastrectomy.METHODS: Forty patients(ASA I to III)undergoing elective laparosc opic radical gastrectomy for gastric cancer, were randomly divided into t wo groups: general anesthesia group(group G)and general anesthesia com bined with paravertebral nerve block group(Group P).Patients in group P r eceived paravertebral injection of 0.375% ropivacaine.Recorded the blood pressure(BP),heart rate(HR)in different moments.Group P recorded th e range of block plane, the range of spinal nerve block and VAS score d uring recovery room(resting and cough). The amount of propofol and remi fentanil used was recorded, the relate complications, operation time and Ext ubation time were recorded as well.RESULTS:The amount of propofol and remifentanil used were lower in group G.The extubation time of Group P was lower in group P.At T1,T3,and T5,there was no statistical difference between the data;T4 and T6 data were statistically significant;the SBP and HR at T2 had statistically significant differences. There were 3 patients with nausea and vomiting in Group G,1 patient in group P.There was no poisoning with local anesthetic and puncture complications.CONCLUSIONS:Ultrasound-guided paravertebral nerve block is safe and effective for laparoscopic radical gastrectomy. It can shorten the extubation time, reduce the use of general anesthetic drugs, and make the hemodynamics more stabler.
