Objective To explore the application value of magnetic resonance imaging in blood transfusion related iron overload by using T2* and SWI techniques. Methods 31 patients with long-term blood transfusion were selected as experimental group and 21 normal persons were selected as the control group. The blood transfusion patients were divided into two groups, which were not overloaded group and overload group. The total amount of blood transfusion per patient was calculated. The concentration of C reactive protein and serum ferritin were measured. The adjust serum ferritin concentration was calculated. The liver was scanned with T2* sequence, and CMRtools software was used to select regions of interest in the liver. The T2* values of the liver and erector muscles were measured. The mean values of liver T2* and SIR liver/erector muscles were obtained, and the correlation analysis and inter group difference analysis were performed. In 31 patients,22 patients were scanned by SWI sequence.SPIN software was used to select regions of interest in the liver, and the average phase values was calculated. The correlation and inter group differences were analyzed. Results 31 cases in the experimental group, the T2* values of the liver were negatively correlated with the total amount of blood transfusion,SF and ASF,and the correlation coefficients were-0.657(P<0.001),-0.695(P<0.001),and-0.728(P<0.001).There was a positive correlation between SF and the total amount of blood transfusion, and the correlation coefficient was 0.518(P=0.003).The T2* values of the normal group, the non overload group and the overload group were all different. There were negative correlation between SIR liver/erector muscle and total blood transfusion,SF and ASF,and the correlation coefficients were-0.628(P<0.001),-0.690(P<0.001),-0.712(P<0.001).There was difference between groups.22 cases of experimental group liver phase value and the total amount of blood transfusion,SF and ASF have negative correlation, the correlation coefficients were-0.683(P<0.001),-0.686(P<0.001),-0.765(P<0.001).There was significant difference between groups;liver phase value was positively correlated with the T2* value of the liver, the correlation coefficient was 0.768(P<0.001).Conclusion SWI and T2* sequences can be used to evaluate the iron deposition in the liver of patients with blood transfusion related iron overload.
