Abstract/Summary:
Objective To investigate the effect of general anesthesia on school-aged children’s brain quotient after tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy. Methods Twenty patients,ASA class I,who were undergoing tonsillectomy an-d adenoidectomy under general anesthesia, aged 6 to 12 years old, were enrolled in this study.Fasting and ban drink preoperative, and an intravenous placed after entering the operating room.Induction of anesthesia:fentaynl at 0.002-0.003mg/kg,cisatracurium at O.lmg/kg,propofol at 2.5mg/kg i.v,mechanical ventilation after endotracheal intubaion.Maintenance of anesthesia:propofol and remifentanil com-bined with sevoflurane.Monitering blood pressure, heart rate,pulse,SpO2,PtCO2 dur-ing the entire operation.Their self-regulation quotients, basic rhythm quotients,atte-ntion quotients, activity quotients, emotion quotients, stress quotients, correlation quo-tients were evaluated with the Neuroharmony brain wave apparatus one day bef-ore and the day after surgery, and brain quotients were got on the basis of abo-ve seven quotients. All data were analyzed by SPSS 25.0.Qualitative data were described by frequency and rate, measurement data were shown in mean±standard deviation(x ±s),pre-and post-anesthesia were examined by the method of Paired-sample T test,if P<0.05,the difference was statistically significant. Results The all results of pre-and post-operative quotients are as follows.1.The average self-regulation quotient was 69.56±4.35 and 70.55±5.63,respectiv-ely,P>0.05,and with no significant difference;2.The average basic rhythm quotient:the left brain was 73.53±2.98 and 74.06±2.55,and the right brain was 72.88±2.17 and 73.19±3.01,P>0.05,and with no significant difference;3.The average attention quotient:the left brain was 73.188±6.41 and 73.31±5.63,and the right brain was 72.65±5.50 and 73.03±4.19,P>0.05,and with no significant difference;4.The average activity quotient:the left brain was 81.46±3.94 and 82.83±1.84,and the right brain was 81.68± 3.00 and 82.36±2.41,P>0.05,and with no significant difference;5.The average emotion quotient was 83.56±3.21 and 83.30±3.12,respectively,P>0.05,and with no significant difference;6.The average stress quotient:the left brain was 76.01 ±5.36 and 72.76±4.42,and the right brain was 75.822±4.96 and 72.29±4.16,P>0.05,and with no significant difference;7.The average correlation quotient was 81.07±3.73 and 81.20±2.51,respectively,P>0.05,and with no significant difference;8.The average brain quotient was 76.54±2.36 and 76.12±1.69,respectively,P>0.05,and with no significant difference. Conclusions A single and short duration of general anesthesia had no signific ant effect on school-aged children’s brain quotient in the short term after tonsil-lectomy and adenoidectomy.
