Objective1.To explore the demographic and psychological factors influencing the well-being of elderly residents in nursing home in Zhengzhou.2.To testify the effects of psychomotor therapy on the well-being of elderly residents in nursing home in Zhengzhou.MethodsThis study included two parts: cross-sectional study and quasi-experimental study.1.Cross-sectional study: A quantitative analysis of the well-being and influence factors of well-being perceived by the elderly residents in nursing home was conducted: A total of 220 elderly residents from 8 nursing homes were selected.The investigation was conducted with a demographic data questionnaire,World Health Organization Five-item Well-Being Index(WHO-5),Stress Resilience Quotient Scale(SRQS),and the Rosenberg self-esteem scale(RSES).The data were analyzed by SPSS 17.0,and the statistic methods included descriptive statistical analysis,t-test,one-way analysis of variance,Mann-Whitney U rank sum test and multiple linear regression analysis.2.Quasi-experimental study: 80 participants from two nursing home in Zhengzhou City were selected.Each nursing home was randomly allocated into intervention group(40 cases)or control group(40 cases)by tossing a coin.The control group received general mental health education,the intervention group received psychomotor therapy besides.The intervention lasted for 8 weeks.World Health Organization Five-item Well-Being Index(WHO-5),Stress Resilience Quotient Scale(SRQS),and the Rosenberg self-esteem scale(RSES)were measured pre-intervention,after-intervention and 1 month after intervention.The statistical methods included descriptive statistical analysis,Mann-Whitney U rank sum test,chi-square test and generalized estimation equation were used in this study.Results1.Cross-sectional study: A total of 220 questionnaires granted,included 212 effective questionnaires,the effective rate is 96.4%.(1)The score of elderly residents' the World Health Organization Five-item Well-Being Index is(13.45±5.20),the score below the general level.(2)Using one-way analysis and Mann-Whitney U rank sum test to explorer the influencing factor of elderly residents' well-being.The Multiple linear regression analysis showed that age,degree of education,exercises frequency per week,type of recreational activities,satisfaction of the elderly,self-esteem,social support and emotional management are important influencing factors for the well-being of the elderly residents in nursing homes.2.Quasi-experimental study: 79 participants finished the whole data collecting process,39 cases in the intervention group,40 cases in the control group.(1)The score of the World Health Organization Five-item Well-Being Index in intervention group were higher than that in control group,the difference was statistically significant.(P<0.05).(2)The scores of Stress Resilience Quotient Scale,social support dimension,self-control dimension,emotion management dimension,and health assessment dimension of the intervention group were significantly higher than those of the control group(P<0.05).(3)After the intervention,there was no significant difference in self-esteem scores between the intervention group and the control group(P>0.05).(4)The World Health Organization Five-item Well-Being Index of the elderly residents in the intervention group was significantly higher than those before the intervention(P<0.001).(5)The scores of Stress Resilience Quotient Scale,social support dimension,self-control dimension,emotion management dimension,and health assessment dimension of the intervention group were significantly higher than those before the intervention(P<0.001).(6)There was no significant difference in self-esteem scores between the pre-intervention and the after-intervention(P>0.05).Conclusion(1)Age,degree of education,exercises frequency per week,type of recreational activities,satisfaction of the elderly,self-esteem,social support and emotional management are important factors functioning on the well-being of the elderly residents in nursing homes.(2)Psychomotor therapy is a method,easy to operate,And it can effectively improve the well-being of elderly residents in nursing home,stress coping capabilities,and improve the well-being in general.
