Research On Media Images Of Mental Patients In Internet Media

With the rapid development of economic society,accelerating the pace of work and life,mental illness becomes one of the biggest problems of the current society.The number of people suffering from mental illness has exceeded the number of patients with heart disease and cancer.According to The National Mental Health Work Planning(2015-2020),people have widespread prejudice and discrimination against mental illness,that makes mental patients feel ashamed for their difficulty in obtaining social sympathy and understanding.So it will delay the mental patients'treatment and lead to serious consequences.Mass media especially internet media,as an important way for people to obtain news and information,it will further affect the cognition and attitude of people.Therefore,it is of great significance to study whether the Internet media objectively presents the media images of patients with mental illness,as well as the differences and connections between media images and their authentic images.Therefore,the article selects the reports of People's Daily Online and Tencent network about mental patients as research samples,and explores how they construct and present the media images of this group.And on this basis,through interviewing with a mental health specialist,as well as by selecting the three books that mental patients write according to their own experiences for text analysis,the article tries to present the authentic images of this group more fully.At last,through a comparative analysis of mental patients' media images and authentic images,we will provide some references for more Internet media in related reporting in the future.Finally,the article has found that the media images of mental patients are not exactly consistent with their authentic images.The media images of mental patients are mainly based on the image of "perpetrator" and "baggage",and are supplemented by the image of "victim" and "deserving sympathy,concern and care".But the media images lack kindness,optimism and enterprising spirit.The authentic images of mental patients not only show their loneliness,inferiority,decadence and runaway aspects,but also show their kindness,initiative and self-worth.Therefore,mental patients' authentic images are more comprehensive and objective than their media images.According to the above research results,the article holds that People's DailyOnline and Tencent network do have some problems in reporting the mental patients,such as single reporting themes,incomplete reporting sources,insufficient interviews,usually using "mental patient" to report the reporting objects,superficial reporting contents and so on.In this regard,the article analyzes the reasons from three aspects:the medical environment,the media itself and the social environment.On this basis,the article suggests that more Internet media can strengthen the communications with medical and health institutions,enhance social responsibility and keep track of reports about social emergencies.And the Internet media should try to restore the authentic images of mental patients in future reports,popularize some knowledge about mental illness,improve people's correct understanding of mental illness,gradually weaken the social prejudice of people to this group,create a media environment conducive to the rehabilitation of this group.
