ObjectivesObstructive azoospermia(OA)patient has normal function of testicular spermatogenesis, duing to congenital and acquired factors that make obstruction of the male genital tract, resulting in no sperm in seminal plasma and male infertility.Factors, such as ejaculatory duct obstruction(EDO),infections, trauma, tumor, etc.leading to azoospermia can be treated by medical methods to improve semen quality, expecting to acquire sperm in semen plasma or natural pregnancy and reducing the utilization rate of testicular sperm extraction(TESE).Meanwhile, there still is no clear conclusive efficiency of treatment of OA.Therefore, this article is to research the efficiency of treatment of OA with EDO by transurethral resection of ejaculatory ducts(TURED).MethodsAzoospermia can be diagnosed with OA by measuring semen volume, fructose content,alpha-glucosidases,prostaglandin D synthase(PGDS),pH and inhibin B,etc, combining with transrectal ultrasonography, colored Doppler supersonic,MRI and other assistant examinations.Results27 OA patients with EDO were treated by TURED.6 months later, all these patients get semen examinations, showing that all of 27 patients' semen volume increased, including 14 cases of semen quality significantly improved than before,3 cases of successful fertility and 2 patients have babies.ConclusionsEDO is a rare but treatable cause of OA in male infertility. With the accumulation of clinical experience and progress of surgical instruments, transurethral resection may be safe and effective treatment for OA with EDO.
