Background:Children is a special group, the burn happens in childhood may bring a severe affect to the physical development and mental growth. It also gives a heavy burden to the family. In the percent of burns, scald account for 8.7%-81.4%in worldwide. The preschool children less than 6 years old account for the main percent in scalded patients. But in all of the burn reasons of preschool children scald is higher significantly in China than the other country in the world.[1-8]Two surveys show that hot drinks account for 33.9%-55%in all the scald reasons.Chinese have a favorite to hot drinks. In the clinical practice,we found many accidents had connected with hot drinks and thermos. So we want to survey the percent of scald by hot drinks in preschool children, the risk factors and other present situation of scald in preschool children, the present situation of thermos in family. We hope our survey can be helpful to the prevention of hot drink scald. Objective:To explore the prevalence of pediatric(0-72 months old)scalds in China, and to clarify its relationship with household vacuum flasks. Methods:A cross sectional online survey based on the largest social media in China.Online questionnaire was pushed twice a day to our target respondents for successive seven days.We were authorized to gain, analyze and publish the information related to this research by the Sina&Weibo data center. Results:In total, about 0.8 million real-name registrants were invited to participate our survey, while about 0.1 million users browsed our questionnaire, and a total of 20,567 and 32,370 valid responses were received for the first and second parts, respectively. The respondents were mainly female(87%)and between 23-32 years old(69%).As to the geographical distribution, there were four districts accounting for more than 6%and five districts accounting for 4%-6%,respectively.Prevalence of Chinese pediatric scalds was 5.5%.Gender ratio(boy to girl)was 1.96:1.Toddlers(12-36 months old)were the most susceptible age group(54.5%)and the other two age groups(0-12 and 36-72 months old)accounted for about one fourth respectively.About 80%of the wounds were located at limbs, and nearly 20%were at head-neck area.Scalds at trunk were less than 10%.The main reason of pediatric scalds was accidental water spill(77.3%),followed by body immersion into hot water(19.3%),and 5.9%of the accidents were resulted from water container broken.Extremely low percent(7.1%)of the parents did first-aids of "RRICH" rule:water rinse-clothes remove-water immersion-clean cover-hospital.Nearly 30%of the parents chose to treat the scald by themselves at home.Scars were left in 52.7%victims and 14.7%of them required further plastic surgery. There were 75.5%Chinese families using vacuum flasks in daily life, but only 6.1%families used the fastening device to avoid accidents. Most family used to put the flask at lm or 0m height for convenient use.Conclusion:1)Prevalence of Chinese pediatric scalds(0-72 months old)was rather high, which might be related to the extensive insecure usage of household vacuum flasks.2)the prevention of scald and correct first aid are extremely deficient in China, and its propaganda is extremely urgent.3)"1-3 years old" and "boy" are the high-risk keywords of scald, and relevant people should be protected.
