Influence Of Sex And Age On Pedicle Parameters Of Thoracolumbar In Adults In Northeast China

Objective:To evaluate the width and height of pedicles in young men and young women,elderly men and elderly women in Northeast China,then compared the pedicle parameters between young and old and between men and women,and to explore the clinical significance.Methods:Among patients in Northeast China which had been treated in our department from September 2015 to October 2017,30 young men patients,with the age ranging from 19 to 25 years(averaged 22.1±2.18 years)and the heightranging from 165 to 180 cm(averaged 175.8±3.78 cm);30 elderlymen patients,with the age ranging from 54 to 71 years(averaged 62.3±5.75 years)and the height ranging from 163 to 178 cm(averaged 173.8±3.51 cm);30 young women patients,with the age ranging from 18 to 25 years(averaged 21.1±2.71 years)and the height ranging from 155 to 167 cm(averaged 161.4±3.68 cm);30 elderly women patients,with the age ranging from 61 to 73 years(averaged 68.0±4.51 years)and the height ranging from 155 to 165 cm(averaged 160.4±3.16 cm);Thoracolumbar CT before treatment was selected to measure the width and height of T11-L3 pedicle from the horizontal plane and the sagittal plane respectively.The measurement accuracy was 0.01 mm.Pearson correlation analysis was performed on each groups of data,and the independent t-test was used to made upon the measured data of different groups.Result:POW and POH in different age groups but the same gender had no statistical difference(P> 0.05).The POW and POH of men in the same age group were higher than The POW and POH of women,and the difference was statistically significant(P <0.05).The POW of L1 in all groups was less than the POW of T12,and the difference was statistically significant(P <0.05).The Pearson correlation coefficient showed that there was a strong correlation between POW of L1 and POW of each group.Conclusion:1.Age had no significant effect on POW and POH;men's POW and POH were greater than women's POW and POH.2.The POW of L1 is less than the POW of T12.The POW determines the diameter of the pedicle screw,so the screw selection should pay attention to this difference.3.CT examination can help the surgeon to take individualized nail placement pedicle nailing operation.4.There are many factors that affect pedicle parameters.This article only studies age and gender,and needs to be further studied.
