To study the chemical constituents from the stem bark of Ulmus pumila L.Compounds were isolated and purified by using various column chromatography and recrystallization. The structures were identified by spectral analysis.Ten compounds were isolated from the ethyl acetate fraction of ethanolic extract from the stem bark of U.pumila and identified as maslinic acid(1),tormentic acid(2),daucosterol(3),arjunolic acid(4),(-)-catechin(5),naringenin(6),catechin-7-O-?-apiofuranoside(7),6-C-glucosyl-quercetin(8),(+)-5-methoxy isolariciresinol-9'-O-?-D-xylopyranoside(9),7'-epilinguresinol-9'-O-?-L-rhamnoside(10).Among them, compounds 8 and 10 were isolated from this plant for the first time.Compounds 5 and 7 showed potent cytoprotective on tacrine-induced hepatotoxicity in human liver-derived Hep G2 cells.
