Cucumis melo occupies an important position in the world fruit and vegetable industry,It is widely planted and one of the important cash crops at home and abroad.China is the country with the largest area of melon cultivation,As the population of our country increases,so does the demand for melons.The growing area of melon has caused many problems in cultivation.In horticultural cultivation,grafting can effectively prevent soil borne diseases such as blight caused by vegetable rotation and improve plant resistance.Nowadays,melon bonding is one of the best known methods.The cost of this method is high because it requires a lot of manpower to manage in the later stage.In this study,A new method called "hooking graft" is introduced.This method is more efficient because it slows down the budding speed of rootstock compared with approaching grafting.To study effects of hooking graft in other aspects of muskmelon,using muskmelon "Jin yu" as scions and pumpkin " Qingyan No.1 " as stocks,the effects of these two graft methods(hooking and approaching grafting)on physiological and biochemical characteristics of leaves,quality and Yieid of fruits of muskmelon were studied.The results showed that:1.Under the condition of the same management,The survival rate of hooking and approaching grafting was 93.2% and 95.1%.2.The plant height,stem diameter,maximum leaf area,wet and dry weight,chlorophyll content,of grafting seedlings were better than that of self-root seedlings.3.Grafting can significantly improve the root activity of melon seedlings.At the delayed seedling stage,the activity of grafted seedlings was lower than that of self-rooted seedlings.When the melon seedlings had 6 leaves in one leaf,the root activity hooking and apporaching was higher than that of root seedlings 13.75% and 6.75%,respectively.4.Grafting increased proline content of melon seedlings.The content of proline decreased with the age of seedling,.However,the proline content of the grafted seedlings was higher than that of the root seedlings.The height of hooking and apporaching and self-root seedlings was 64.81% and 31.90%,respectively.5.Grafting significantly increased the yield of muskmelon.The hooking and apporaching and self-root seedlings the yield of melon was increased by 10.92% and 11.76%.Grafting significantly improved the melon thick meat,The hooking and apporaching and self-root seedlings the thick meat of muskmelon was increased by 9.01% and 13.21%,the melon fruit has the same quality.6.hooking-graft management is more economical in later stages.Take managing 10,000thick-skinned melon seedlings,the total hooking effort was 143.3h,the total approaching effort was 16.27 h,More seedlings more efficient.
