Poplar is one species of perennial fast-growing tree,widely planted in China and even in the world.It is one of the three species of fast-growing tree.Poplar plays a unique role in the construction of ecological environment in China.This study mainly contucted the effects of methyl sulfonate formaldehyde(MMS)treatment and TIE strain(keratobacteria anthracis)on the rust resistance of Populus purdomii.1.Effect of methyl sulfonate formaldehyde(MMS)treatment on the rust resistance of P.purdomii.Different concentrations of methyl sulfonate formaldehyde(MMS)were used to treat the one-year old seedlings of P.purdomii and then we artificially inoculated with an unique concentration of urediospore suspension,latent perioid,uredinial density,seedling death rate,deformation rate and leaf dark spots and so on epigentic performaces were dated under induce of different MMS concentrations;Meanwhile,the activities of SOD,POD,CAT,PPO and other defense enzymes were measured by spectrophotometry.The effect of methylation treatment on rust resistance of Populus purdomii.was conducted.The results showed that leaf crimp or intram-edullage,leaf dark spot rate were positively correlated with MMS concentration.However,MMS treatment can make the better growing plants more vigirous,and the leaf color was deepened and the leather quality was enhanced.The MMS treatment can improve the resistance of poplar to the rust,the latent period was delayed 1 to 2 days longer than the control,and the Melamsola larici-populina uredinial density decreased significantly with MMS treatment,the activities of defense enzymes of the host poplar changed correspondingly.In general,SOD and POD tended to be down-regulated as compared with the control group,CAT and PPO tended to be up-regulated as compared with the control group,and the activities of POD and PPO were most affected by MMS.After inoculation,all the four biological enzymes tested in the process of rust infection showed a relative trend of first rising and then declining,in which PPO had a significant positive correlation with rust resistance(P=0.024).Methylation treatment can improve the quantitative resistance to rust of populus purdomii,decreased the uredinial density of Melamsola larici-pupolina,change the activity of self-defense enzyme expression and improve disease resistance.2.The effect of TIE strain on the rust resistance of Populus purdomiiIt was found that TIE strain had no significant antagonism to M.larici-populina.However,under TIE strain inoculation,the activities of SOD,CAT and PPO in poplar decreased significantly and the enzyme defense was significantly weaker than the control group.The ability of poplar to resist rust has been improved remarkably.
