The present situation of cage laying hens in Handan area was investigated in this study. The problems existing in cage laying hens breeding in Handan area were summarized.Learn the experiences and modern research achievements of industry development from the developing experience of laying hens industry in developed countries or developed regions of China. For the adjustment and harmonious development of laying industry in cage, the corresponding solving strategies and suggestions are put forward and formulated to strengthen its competitive advantage in the market and the industrial benefit of laying hens, which also promote the increase of Peasants’ income and the coordinated development of regional economy. This study lays a theoretical foundation for the transformation and upgrading of laying hens industry in Handan area, and provides the theoretical basis for the local government formulate the sustainable development policy of cage laying hens and for the enterprises to formulate development strategy. This survey to Handan area cage laying hens breeding enterprises and Handan animal husbandry and veterinary departments was carried out using interview, questionnaire, literature research, sampling and testing. The contents of the investigation include the scale of cage laying hens in Handan area, the breeding model(semi-open and closed),the breeding facilities(automation of feeding equipment, feed processing, manure treatment, etc.),incidence of common diseases in laying hens and the mortality of diseases.Egg production rate and broken egg rate, egg sales mode, educational background structure of practitioners, scientific and technological innovation ability of breeding enterprises, construction of professional breeding service platform, etc. We also collected and analyzed samples including indoor air and eggshell bacterial contamination in half-open and closed breeding models of cage laying hens in Handan area. The investigation found some questions,as followed: Firstly, the scale, intensive, ecological and intelligent management was low and the level of intelligent management was poor in half-open cage laying hens plants with inferior quality staff, the narrow selling way of egg products and the lack of the well-known egg brand.Secondly, the industry chain is short in half-open cage laying hens plants with the lack of application of new technology in product processing and scientific and technological service platform, which could not provide accurate, dynamic andscientific comprehensive information services.Thirdly, there was short of high-tech enterprises leading the role of demonstration and driving. At the same time,it was found that the air environment in the hen house, the laying rate and the proportion of high quality egg were better than that in the semi-open cage breeding mode. Therefore,it is suggested to develop the closed breeding model of laying hens, strengthen the construction of service platform and scientific and technological research and development platform for laying hens in Handan area, and increase the investment in the establishment of the breeding industry, perfect the construction of training system of laying hens’ breeding techniques, and improve the diathesis of employees in an all-round way and speed up the transformation and upgrade of laying Hens.Enterprises should play the leading role of demonstration and establish the production and management mechanism of "standard scale of egg hens brand" and extend and perfect the industrial chain to open up the selling market of eggs.It is also suggested to improve the scale, intensive, ecological production level, realize the automation, information, intelligence, fine management and promote the sustainable and harmonious development of Handan area cage laying hens industry.
