Plant resistance is potentially a key component of management programs for hoppers in rice.Focusing on white-backed planthopper(WBPH,Sogatella furcifera)and a set of resistant varieties(with TN1 as the susceptible standard),we measured several indices for each of three crucial categories of resistance(tolerance, antixenosis and antibiosis)in these resistant and moderately resistant rice.We then tested the rice using pot experiments in 2016,investigations into oviposition and population of planthoppers included.Including the results of pot experiments,we integrated these various indices into an overall index of resistance using radar charts for evaluation. In order to verify the previous results, filed surveys of the population of planthoppers were performed in 2017.The bioinformatics analysis of insect resistant rice was carried out by proteomics technology. This method may be applied to screening some resistant rice, which lays the foundation for comprehensive evaluation of rice resistant germplasm resources and breeding more resistant rice varieties. This study provides a method of performing an overall evaluation of rice which may help screen and evaluate kinds of rice varieties in the control of insect pests such as WBPH.The results are as follows:(1)We found that leaf yellowing days were significantly related to resistance grades of rice.TN1 attracted more WBPH than the resistant rice. The survival rate of WBPH fed on resistant rice was much lower than TN1.The radar chart provided a nice visualization of the resistance characteristics, and it is easy to see the resistance capability by the area of the radar. It is the first time to evaluate the rice using radar chart, and it proved that the radar charts can be used for the overall evaluation of resistance capability of different rice varieties.(2)Field trials verified the validity of the result of pot experiments. Therefore,it demonstrated that we can assess the performance of rice in the field by the pot experiment, and we conclude that resistant rice varieties have better performance in the field than TN1 does. The numbers of WBPH in rice paddies of TN1 were much higher than those of the other rice on July 13 th,July 24 th and August 4th,and the numbers of WBPH in rice paddies of 79-1163 were always low.The high proportion of 1st to 3rd instars nymphs on July 13 th indicated that the population of WBPH was growing rapidly. The population outbreak of WBPH nymphs had already emerged on July 24 th.Yield data demonstrated that there was a significant negative correlation between the average number of planthopper of four field investigations and grain yield of each experimental plot.(3)A quantitative proteome study of rice leaf sheath tissue was conducted by combining insect resistant rice material 79-1163,tandem mass tags(TMT)marker,TN1 and mass spectrometry are based on proteomics technology.Totolly,6645 proteins were identified,of which 5891 proteins contain quantitative information. In the quantitative protein,261 protein expression in R-vs-CK comparison group was up-regulated,and 155 protein expression was down regulated. We systematically analyzed bioinformatics of proteins containing quantitative information, including protein annotation, functional classification, functional enrichment and cluster analysis based on functional enrichment.Combined with the above information,it provided a reference for further research on the downstream based proteome.
