Valuation And Wide-row High-trunk Cultivation Of 'Chengji No.1' Fuji Apple Trees

In this study,we systematically analyzed and evaluated the biological characteristics,growth and fruiting habits,fruit economical traits,phenological period,adaptation of?Chengji No.1‘in Jingning,Gansu,the key apple planting regions of Loess Plateau.We first developed a modern wide-row high-trunk cultivation technology in dry rain-fed regions of Longdong using?Chengjifu No.1‘grafted on Malus sieversii,which is a wild variety of apple roots.The main results are listed as follows:(1)By observing the growth characteristics of Chengji No.1‘grown in?Jingning‘,we found this apple variety has strong growth vigor with compact crown,higher percentage of short branches,early fruiting and high yield.The fruit is nearly round with an average shape index of 0.91,weight of 245 g,and the color of fruit is more than 90%bright;and the fruit hardness is 8.5 kg/cm~2,the soluble solid content 15.5%.Excellent fruits that can be stored for120 days in the simple conditions account for 90%of the whole production.Thus,all these characters in?chengji No.1‘were significantly superior to?Nagafu No.2‘.(2)We established the demonstration garden of"Chengji No.1"using wide-row high-trunk cultivation without stents.Specifically,we used different apple rootstock-scion combinations,such as Malus sieversii as rootstock with developed root system,good soil fixation,barren,drought and cold resistance with'Chengji No.1'as scion.This cultivation model led to trees which is easy flowering,early fruiting and high yielding.(3)We also developed top grafting method and replaced weak current seedlings,which can help to solve the bottleneck in apple industry.Additionally,our breeding work can also improve supply of apple seedlings,and increase farmer income and industrial efficiency.
