It is very common that hypokalemia is caused by many diseases and is an important electrolyte disorder. It is hypokalemia when the serum potassium concentration below 3 6mEq/L.When severe hypokalemia there will be muscle weakness or paralysis, muscle spasms, mental depression, lethargy, anorexia, drink more and more urine, bowel movements slow down, low permeability urine and other symptoms.Severe cases can occur such as breathing difficulties, arrhythmia and so on.If not accept effectively treatment,or due to improper medication, can aggravate the condition, and even lead to sudden death of dogs.Due to its limits to infusion rate and concentration, the traditional injection of potassium ion solution through peripheral vein, this method can not promptly correct the serum potassium to the normal range in severe hypokalemia animals, and the infusion volume is very hurry. The heart have a greater burden for patients with heart and lung disease. The author found that using the method of micro-pump infusion of potassium through the central vein,Because of the large central venous blood flow, rapid dilution of the high concentration of potassium chloride solution into the central vein can prevent the transient increase in blood potassium levels in the heart to cause the repolarization and conduction of myocardial cells to slow down, thus avoiding the Cardiac arrest. The serum potassium recovered faster, and the infusion volume is small through access to relevant information in human medicine.Dosage is uniform, quantitative and sustained. The test one determined the optimal infusion rate and concentration of hypokalemia in dogs treated with high concentrations of potassium chloride through clinical safety test.Test method:the healthy adult test dogs were randomly divided into different groups. We observed the changes according to the different infusion rate of high concentrations of potassium chloride(5%potassium chloride solution),the method of infusion rate for each group increased by 0.5 mEq/kg/h.During the infusion process, the changes of the electrocardiogram of all the dogs were observed closely. If the ECG changed significantly, the test was stopped.Three days after the texts were completed, all the experimental dogs'Anterior vena cava were selected for histopathological observation. The results showed that the electrocardiogram changed obviously when the infusion rate was between 4.5 and 5 mEq/kg/h,indicating that there have a greater impact on the heart when the infusion rate of high concentration potassium chloride solution(5%KCl solution)was 4.5-5.0 mEq/kg/h.According to the histopathological examination results we can be seen in the infusion rate of 1-4 mEq/kg/h,there have no significant stimulating effect on the distal central venous. The text two observed the the clinical efficacy of the treatment of hypokalemia in dogs with high concentration of potassium chloride, through the establishment of test animal model with hypokalemia.Test method:the test dogs were fed with low potassium diet and polysulfone sodium sodiumn,in order to achieve different levels of hypokalemia.Group A(serum potassium concentration 2.0?2.5 mEq/L),Group B(serum potassium concentration<2.0 mEq/L).After the establishment of hypokalemia model, then observed the clinical efficacy in dogs treated with high concentrations of potassium chloride.Group B of test dogs(serum potassium concentration 2.0?2.5 mEq/L)were infused with high concentrations of potassium chloride(5%KCl solution)by a infusion rate of 1 mEq/kg/h.Group B of test dogs(serum potassium concentration<2.0 mEq/L)were infused with high concentrations of potassium chloride(5%KCl)by a infusion rate of 2 mEq/kg/h.The results showed that when the concentration of potassium chloride solution was 3-6%,the maximum safe infusion rate can achieve to 3.5 mEp/kg/h when the high concentration of potassium chloride was used to treat hypokalemia in dogs.In the clinical efficacy observation test we found that the recovery time of serum potassium significantly shortened due to the increased infusion rate and solution concentration, and the infusion volume reduced significantly, the method is efficient.Especially in patients with severe hypokalemia associated with arrhythmia, difficulty breathing and other cases, this method can correct potassium imbalance quickly and save the animal's lives.
