The eggplant?Solanum melongena L.?is an important vegetable riching in vitamin P,and widely grown in tropical and subtropical regions.Vitamin P has the health and medical efficacy in preventing and treating cardiovascular diseases.The quality breeding of vegetables has always been a focus of the breeders.The selection of functional eggplant varieties with high vitamin P content plays an important role in enhancing the potential value of eggplant.In this experiment,the vitamin P content of 53 eggplant inbred lines collected was determined by the ultraviolet spectrophotometer method.The inheritance pattern of vitamin P content in eggplant was analyzed using the mixed major gene and polygene inheritance model.Some relating enzyme genes in the P synthesis pathway were cloned.Get results as follow:?1?There was significant difference among the various eggplant materials,the eggplant with high vitamin P content had been detectived.The content of vitamin P in fruits of 53 eggplant varieties was significantly different.The average content of vitamin P in peel was 0.42 mg·g-1·FW-12.32 mg·g-1·FW-1,the average content of vitamin P in pulp was 0.18 mg·g-1·FW-10.82 mg·g-1·FW-1,In the same fruit,the vitamin P content in the peel was higher than that in the pulp.?2?The trait of vitamin P content in eggplant was a quantitative trait,presumably controlled by one or two major genes.In the mixed major gene and polygene inheritance model analysis,the trait of high vitamin P content in eggplant was controlled by one or two major genes,and the gene effect belonged to additive-dominance effect,and the main gene controlling the high vitamin P content traits was additive effect,the heritability of major genes was low,but the heritability of major genes controlling low vitamin P content trait was high.?3?Two genes of vitamin P synthesizs in eggplant had been cloned.The two genes?SmFLS?Sm4CL?relating to vitamin P metabolic pathways in eggplant were cloned using the homologous sequence method.The expression property of these two genes were analyzed.The results showed that the expression level of SmFLS gene in eggplant pulp and peel were significantly higher than that in root,stem and leaf;and there was no significant difference of expression in the pulp and peel.There was no significant difference in the expression of Sm4CL in root,stem,leaf,peel and pulp.Our results were useful for eggplant breeding and regulating mechanism of the synthesis of vitamin P in eggplants.
