Panama disease of banana caused by Fusarium oxysporum f.sp.cubense(FOC)is a devastating soil-borne fungal disease causing extensive failure of commercial plantations of banana throughout the banana producing areas of the world.The pathogen is extremely difficult to control due to its persistence in soil,and to date no effective control measure has been found.However,our previously study have found that intercropping and rotating banana with Chinese chive could control the Panama disease.Three chemical substances including dimethyl trisulfide(DMT),dipropyl trisulfide(DPT)and 2-methyl-2-pentena(MP)from Chinese chive were identified.Based on previous research results,six different Chinese chive cultivars including 'FuJiuHuang No.2','DuoKangSiJiQing','DuoKangFuJiu 11','ZiGenChunZaoHong','FuJiuBao' and 'FuTaiJiu No.1' were selected to enhance our practice on the ecological control to panama disease of 'Tianbao Banana' in FuJian Provence.The results as follows:Firstly,the effects of volatiles and water extracts from six species of amaranth on the inhibition of FOC were compared.All six species of amaranth were able to inhibit the growth of Fusarium.The volatiles of'FuJiuHuang No.1' in six species had the most obvious effect and the inhibition rate reached 60%,followed by 'DuoKangSiJiQing',whose inhibition rate reached 25%.The effect of multi-resistance of'DuoKangSiJiQing' was most obvious in water extracts,and the inhibition rate was 72%.Then was the 'FuJiuHuang No.1' with an inhibition rate of 69%.The contents of three antibacterial substances of DMT,DPT and MP,as the characteristic indicators,in six kinds of amaranth varieties were quantitated by GC-FID quantitative analysis,the experimental results showed that 'FuJiuHuang No.1' had the highest content of DMT,DPT and MP(4.454 ?g/g,0.482 ?g/g and 0.043 ?g/g,respectively.)in the volatile.The contents of DPT and MP of'FuJiuHuang No.1'(50.240 ?g/g and 0.983?g/g,respectively)were also the highest in the water extract among six species,though the content of DMT is relative small.The 'DuoKangSiJiQing' had the highest DMT content of 546.375 ?g/g,and had the second highest contents of DPT(43.446 ?g/g)and MP(0.874 ?g/g).Further,based on the pot experiment and the intercropping experiment in the field,we found that bananas intercropping leeks had a stronger inhibitory effect on FOC than monocropping bananas.Among these six species,intercropping of'DuoKangSiJiQing' with 'TianBao banana' had the best antibacterial effect:the incidence of bananas is low and the number of diseased leaves per plant is significant less than that of monoculture bananas.In summary,our results not only enhance our understanding about the chemical ecology mechanism of controling the Panama disease by using Chinese chive,but also provide a reference about the intercropping and rotating banana with Chinese chive to control the Panama disease in Fujian Provence.
