Maize is the main food crop in China,and the yield loss caused by corn lodging is up to 5%-25%,and can reach over 70%.With the research and application of plant growth regulators,it has been found that it has a significant effect in shaping the distribution of plant species such as metabolites.Among them,ethephon and its compounding agents have been widely used as control measures for lodging resistance of maize,but they have been enhanced.The stalk strength and other mechanisms are not yet clear.The aim of this study was to investigate the regulation of ethephon on the stalk strength of different genotype maize cultivars and related inbred lines,and to explore the mechanism of improving the lodging resistance of maize.In this study,three different concentrations of ethephon(0,200,400 mg/L)were treated with the hybrids Zhengdan 958 and Xianyu 335,inbred lines Zheng58,Chang7-2,PH6 WC,and PH4 CV as experimental materials.To study the effect of ethephon on corn stalk strength,the effect on the plant type and yield formation of maize,and the relationship with the lodging resistance.The specific findings are as follows:1.Ethephon reduced the length of the 2-7th internodes of 6 corn materials and increased the internode roughness from 2-7 knots;the puncture strength and flexion resistance of the stems increased significantly.Among them,the 2-4th internode length,internode diameter,and puncture strength of the hybrids Zhengdan958 and Xianyu335 were significantly affected,and the traits of the 4th inbred lines were significantly affected between the 3-5th internodes.At the same time,the effect of ethephon on hybrids was significantly higher than that of inbred lines.2.Ethephon not only significantly increased the lignin content in stems and the activities of key enzymes PAL,CAD,and 4CL,but also affected different varieties.In the early growth period,the indicators of ZD958 were affected by the treatment of ethephon XY335 has a significantly higher effect on hybrids than inbred lines.3.The effect of ethephon on the plant type of maize was as follows: plant height,ear height,and center of gravity were all significantly reduced in corn plants,and corn leaf area and leaf angle were significantly reduced.4.The ethephon significantly reduced the yield,and had a significant effect on the number of grains per ear,but had no significant effect on the 100-grain weight.5.Ethephon treatment improved corn lodging index and improved lodging resistance.Through data analysis,it was found that the indexes of lignin content,PAL activity,4CL activity,puncture strength,flexion resistance,leaf area,leaf angle,plant height,ear height,and center of gravity were all significantly higher than the lodging resistance index.Positively related.And there are significant differences among these indicators in the varieties,that is,ethephon has a greater effect on XY335 than ZD958,and has a greater impact on hybrids than inbred lines.The effects of ethephon on hybrids ZD958 and XY335 were similar to those of Zheng 58 and PH6 WC in their parents. |
