In order to explore the best treatment of Paclobutrazol and Ethephon,which can not only reduce millet plant but also not affect millet yield,and provide theoretical basis for chemical regulation and high-yield cultivation of millet.Using randomized block design,Paclobutrazol and Ethephon were sprayed on leaves of millet at different growth stages.The effects of single application and interaction of two plant growth regulators on stem characteristics,lodging resistance,physiological characteristics,grain filling and yield of millet were studied.The results show that:1.After spraying Paclobutrazol on the leaves before jointing stage,jointing stage and booting stage,plant height,stem diameter,leaf area,stem index and lodging index of Nongda 8 and Zhangza 10 were the best before jointing stage,while chlorophyll content,photosynthetic parameters,SOD,POD activity and MDA content of millet leaves were the best at jointing stage.The yield of Nongda 8 and Zhangza 10 sprayed Paclobutrazol on the leaves at jointing stage was the highest,but it did not increase significantly in other periods.2.After spraying Ethephon at booting stage,heading stage and filling stage,the plant height,stem diameter,stem index and lodging index of Nongda 8 and Zhangza 10 were the best at booting stage,while chlorophyll content,photosynthetic parameters,SOD,POD activity and MDA content of millet leaves were the best at heading stage,but the effect was not significant.The yield of Nongda 8 and Zhangza 10 sprayed Ethephon on the leaves at heading stage was the highest,while other treatments reduced the yield of millet.3.Under the interaction of Paclobutrazol and Ethephon,after spraying Paclobutrazol before jointing stage,the plant height,stem diameter,leaf area,stem index and lodging index of Nongda 8 were the best when applying Ethephon at grain filling stage,while after spraying Paclobutrazol at jointing stage,the chlorophyll content,photosynthetic parameters,SOD,POD activity and MDA content of leaves were the best when applying Ethephon at heading stage.At the same time,the grain filling rate increased significantly and the yield reached the maximum.After spraying Paclobutrazol before jointing stage,the plant height,stem diameter,leaf area,stem index and lodging index of Zhangza 10 were the best when applying Ethephon at heading stage.At the same time,the chlorophyll content,photosynthetic parameters,SOD,POD activity and MDA content of its leaves were also the best,and the grain filling rate was significantly increased and the yield reached the maximum.4.The effect of single application of Paclobutrazol and Ethephon is different,and the interaction of two regulators can reduce the impact caused by different spraying periods and expand the application scope.At the same time,the interaction can also improve the application effect of Paclobutrazol and Ethephon.
