Abstract/Summary:
The COVID-19 outbreak and the Australian fire incident have made people realize that severe energy and environmental problems are closely related to everyone. However, the task of energy saving and emission reduction is arduous in China,so it is of great significance to accelerate the promotion of national energy conservation.Comparative information feedback is one of the economic and effective intervention methods for residents to save electricity. This paper focuses on the residents in the context of peer groups, and probed into the impact of comparative information feedback on the energy-saving behavior of this group.Based on the theory of Social Relations, this paper explores the effect of comparative information feedback(independent variable)on Residents’ energy-saving behavior in the context of peer groups, revealing the dynamic effect of different reference groups as well as the regulatory mechanism of group characteristics on comparative information feedback.Field experiment method has been adopted to design a real scene experiment with comparative information feedback.According to the differences of reference groups, the experiment was divided into four groups(temporal comparison, neighbor comparison, average comparison and control group). The electricity consumption of 261 dormitories in a certain university has been observed for 6 weeks. This paper employs the methods of Propensity Score Matching and Difference-in-Difference to control the internal and external influences as much as possible. The final results discover that: ○1 Comparative information feedback can promote the energy-saving behavior of the peer group, and the feedback information of temporal comparison can promote the energy-saving behavior of the peer group more than that of neighbor comparison and average comparison.○2 From the effect of dynamic impact, time comparison has a long-term effect;neighbor comparison and average comparison fail in the period of overall power consumption reduction, and neighbor comparison is long-term effective, and average comparison is only shortterm effective.○3 The objective characteristics of the group have an impact on the effect of comparative information feedback, and the effect of comparative information feedback is more significant for the group with low grade, low level of power consumption in the past and high average amount of electricity payment.○4Compared with the neighbor comparison and average comparison, temporal comparison can promote the energy conservation of the senior group.Compared with neighbor comparison, temporal comparison can promote the energy conservation of the group with higher level of electricity consumption in the past. This paper expands the scope of the research group of residents’ energy-saving behavior, which is beneficial to understand the characteristics of the energy-saving behavior of the peer group, and to provide suggestions for relevant departments to formulate effective comparative information feedback strategies for peer groups.
