The earth reinforcement by soil-bags is an old method for soft foundation.Nowadays,this method has been applied widely in the slope stability,shore protection,erosion protection,land reclamation,refuse treatment,and the reinforcement of building and road foundations,the construction of retaining wall and debris-diversion embankment,etc.However,the research on the mechanical properties of soil-bags and the reinforcement mechanism is very limited.The research on the mechanical properties of soil-bags has been conducted by theoretical research,experimental study and numerical simulation using Discontinuous Deformation Analysis(DDA).The stability analysis on slope reinforced by soil-bags has also been carried out.This paper mainly includes the following aspects:1.The literatures on slope reinforcement technique with soil-bags are introduced.2.The single-axle compression tests are performed to study the strength and stress-strain relationship of soil-bags,and the mechanics properties of soil-bags are analyzed.3.Discontinuous deformation analysis(DDA)method has been introduced in both theory and program,and the secondary development is applied to reinforce DDA in order to be applicable to the research of the soil-bags' mechanical properties.4.Discontinuous deformation analysis(DDA)is used to simulate the single-axle compression tests on soil-bags and predict the ultimate bearing capacity.In addition,through modeling by DDA,the law of microscopic damage for soil-bags is studied and various factors on soil-bags' mechanical properties are analyzed such as different friction coefficients between the particles,different particle size,different soil-bag size.5.Based on the concept-“apparent cohesion”,the stability analysis on slope reinforced by soil-bags has been made through soil slope stability analysis software-STAB.
