On the one hand,higher engineering education should adapt to and lead the development of engineering field;on the other hand,it is also an important aspect to cultivate engineering talents.Facing the rapid development of engineering and the increasing complexity of engineering problems,it is necessary to cultivate students' career adaptability.Because that is an inevitable requirement based on the fundamental mission of cultivating talents in higher engineering education,as well as an important way to keep higher engineering education to promote and lead the development of engineering.Career adaptability is largely formed and developed on the basis of interaction between individual ability and environment.The basic framework for the ability of individual career adaptation and development is formed during school education time.To a large extent,these abilities are generated because of the cultivation of colleges and universities,while the talent cultivation mode is the carrier and support of career adaptability generation.Therefore,it is necessary to improve the talent cultivation mode from the perspective of how to improve the students' career adaptability.Based on the theory of career adaptability,this thesis analyzes the connotation and dimension of the career adaptability of higher engineering talents.Through the questionnaire,it reveals the status quo and problems of engineering talent cultivation in China,and analyzes the causes of these problems.As well as learning from the typical experience of MIT and the University of Tokyo in improving the career adaptability of students in higher engineering education,this thesis puts forward the improvement ways and support system of the talent cultivation mode in higher engineering education from the perspective of improving students' career adaptability.This thesis proposes the dimensions of career adaptability of higher engineering talents including: adaptability of engineering knowledge and skill,adaptability of engineering analysis and application,adaptability of career choice,adaptability interpersonal communication,adaptability of career environment,adaptability of professional norm,and adaptability of career development.Through investigations,it is found that the current higher engineering students in China mainly lacks adaptability of engineering knowledge and skill,adaptability of engineering analysis and application,adaptability interpersonal communication,adaptability of career environment,and adaptability of career choice and development consciousness.Starting from these problems,the talent cultivation mode is examined.The outstanding problems of the current cultivation mode are: cultivation objectives ignore student career development;curriculum theory learning and practice are not well connected;and synergistic education has not been well-implemented.The problem arises because of the unreasonable value orientation of higher engineering talent training mode,the curing of the cultivation ideas led by the discipline development paradigm,and the existence of organizational institutional barriers.The outstanding experience of improving the career adaptability of engineering students in high-level universities abroad are: the idea of talent cultivation focuses on students;universities improve the student's career adaptive thinking throughout the process,and embed practice into the cultivation process,and also take career management services as a way for students to understand their career development.Based on these,this thesis believes that the talent cultivation mode should be improved from the cultivation idea,cultivation objectives,curriculum system,teaching methods and guarantee mechanism.This thesis proposes to adhere to the focus on student-centered and career-oriented cultivation,with curriculum and teaching reform as the core,student guidance as support,interactive openness and internal-external synergy as breakthroughs to promote the improvement of higher engineering talent cultivation mode.
