The subject of this article is the economic evaluation of the design change of an Engine crankshaft position sensor of our company.The first 20 years of the new century is a great era for the rapid development of China’s automotive industry.China’s car sales increased from 2.37 million in 2001 to 13.64 million in 2009,21.98 million in 2013,27.06 million in 2016,28.40 million in 2017,28.08 million in 2018,and 25.77 million in 2019.In the past nearly two decades,China’s car sales have increased by more than 10 times,and it has become the largest automobile consumer market of the world.With the progress of science and technology,especially the rapid progress of new energy vehicle technology in the past 10 years,more and more authorities have begun to implement more strict emission standards and lead the transformation of vehicle technology from traditional fuel technology to green energy technology.With the continuous introduction of new energy vehicles,the traditional fuel-powered vehicle market is gradually shrinking.For the engine and its components,it also faces the risk of being eliminated,because they almost take zero contribution to new energy vehicles.So as for the business of engine crankshaft position sensor of our company-which is subordinate to the engine assembly,it is also facing a situation where the business is gradually shrinking.In addition,due to the fluctuations of economic cycle of the world,the global economy has entered a stage of great deflation since 2018.Against the backdrop of economic globalization of the world,the Chinese economy is also facing a pressure of tremendous downwards.So,as an economic barometer,the automotive industry reacts most quickly to the market.As can be seen from the above data,China’s car sales have begun to decline gradually since 2018,and the engine business of our company is also under great pressure.It has become a realistic issue for every employee of our BU on how to grasp the last "brilliant time" of fuel-powered vehicles,to improve quality,to satisfy customers with higher requirements,and continuously to reduce product costs.The purpose of this study is to find an effective way on how to theoretically analyze the reduction of product cost and increase product value.The research method is mainly focus on Expert Scoring Method(ESM).The main research process is to take the value engineering(VE)theory as the main basis,combined with benchmarking analysis,product life cycle theory,and take the representative product EAXXX CPDD crankshaft position sensor as an example,and use the ESM Method to explore the functional characteristics,cost characteristics and value characteristics,and finally evaluate the economics of the three plans with new and old designs.About the research conclusion,through analysis,it is theoretically confirmed that the plan C("new design + semi-automatic production line")is the best plan.And further confirmed that this plan can reduce product costs and increase product function-which is not redundant function.It is not only helpful for customers to choose crankshaft position sensor(s),but also for the selection of camshaft position sensor(s).
