Research On Renewal Design Of Public Space In Old Town From The Perspective Of Cultural Heritage Protection

On the background of the modernization and globalization,the disappearance of urban memory and the crisis of cultural identity caused by the urban homogeneity phenomenon which draw the world’s attention.In order to change this trend,the protection and construction of the historical environment during urban renewal have been paid more and more attention to it.Cultural heritage,as an important part of the historical environment,plays a vital role in the manifestation of urban characteristics and the formation of urban memory.With the enhancement of cultural heritage consciousness,the protection of cultural heritage during the renewal old town is improved gradually.However,some "non-historical and cultural cities" are still short of effective protection and renewal methods because of few historical relics,scattered locations and unobtrusive values.Public space is not only a carrier of urban culture,but also a place of urban memory,and a key factor to inherit the historical culture of the old town.When people pay more and more attention to comfortable space feeling,harmonious neighborhood atmosphere,and a strong sense of belonging place environment,the contradiction between the ever-increasing demand for renewal public space and the shortage of public space resources is increasingly apparent.This is an era of opportunities and challenges,it aims for preservation of the city’s appearance and maintaining citizens identity.In this paper,we take Jingjiang old town core area as an example to illuminate the balance between the protection of cultural heritage and the development of the old town through public space renewal.The paper contained three parts.The first part introduces the background,purpose and significance,research objects,research methods,research content and innovation points.The second part regards as the theoretical research part.A suitable public space design strategy is summarized by combined domestic and overseas research,and feasibility analyzed it by lots of cases.The third part serves as case research.To verify and summarize the public space design strategy on the basis of the reality of the old town of Jingjiang.The results will provide a practical basis for the future update of public spaces in such cities from the perspective of cultural heritage protection.
