The Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal is an important part of the Grand Canal of China,a world cultural heritage. It is the work of the ancient Chinese people and the cultural symbol of the Chinese nation.Initially, people excavated the canal for various purposes. The forming of the canal changed the natural environment, social environment and human environment of the area through which it flowed, and further changed the spatial characteristics of the settlement along the line.Under the influence of the Grand Canal, some settlements gradually expanded into important cities and towns, which in turn affected the direction and shape of the Grand Canal. The Grand Canal and the settlements along the route formed a close interactive relationship. The Beijing section of the Grand Canal and the settlements along the line also conform to this law.Digging up the internal logic and influencing factors of this interactive relationship is conducive to the protection and utilization of the Beijing section of the Grand Canal and the settlements along the line in the current era.First, clarify the writing intention, define the research scope through relevant documents and research results, and select the research object in combination with relevant materials.Second, conduct field investigations on key research objects, and combine the survey results with relevant data to explore the formation and evolution of the Beijing section of the Grand Canal and its impact on the traditional settlements along the line.Thirdly, based on the previous analysis and research, this paper selected a specific historical stage and studied the spatial characteristics of the historical settlements along the Beijing section of the Grand Canal in the context of rapid urbanization, new regionalism, and the recognition of the value of the Grand Canal.Based on the canal ecological corridor theory and referring to theories and research methods such as linear cultural heritage theory and typology, analysis the distribution characteristics, pattern characteristics and morphological characteristics horizontally and vertically of traditional settlements of the Beijing section of the Grand Canal from the three levels of macro, meso and micro in Yuan,Ming and Qing dynasties. Finally, this paper summarizes the spatial characteristics and influencing factors of traditional settlements in the Beijing section of the Grand Canal and draws a conclusion.
