Study For Protective Design Of Ningzhongli Historical Area In Nanjing

Ningzhongli was a residential area designed by architect Lu Qian Shou;its construction was finalized by the end of the “Golden Decade” during the Republic of China by the Nanjing Capital Construction.Originally,it was used as a staff quarter in the Nanjing Branch of the Bank of China.During the War of Resistance Against Japan,numerous houses in the Ningzhongli residential area were destroyed during the Japanese air raids.Later,the area was used as a temporary hospital site for the army.It was until 1946 that its original function of residential purpose was gradually restored.Ningzhongli consists of a combination of Western-style townhouses and traditional Chinese“Li-Nong” style houses.It was a relatively thorough transformation of the residential area in Nanjing from the traditional Chinese residential mode to the Western residential mode.Based on the actual engineering project practice on the conservation and renewal design of Nanjing Ningzhongli historical landscape area,this paper excavates and summarizes the historical evolution of Ningzhongli and the spatial development of its surrounding environment.In addition,this paper serves to clarify the conservation and renewal design according to the historical research and current situation investigation of Ningzhongli while takes the historical building and the spatial form of the residential area as the specific research object.This paper is mainly divided into the following six chapters.Chapter 1 : Introduction of project background and significance of topic selection and research contents and methods;Chapter 2:Relevant cases and theoretical overview of protection and renewal of historical residential areas at home and abroad;Chapter 3:Analysis and explanation of the Historical Evolution of Ningzhongli and the Evolution of Urban Environmental Space;Chapter 4:Current situation analysis of Ningzhongli and the living conditions of indigenous people based on field survey;Chapter 5:Proposal of scientific and feasible protection and renewal design strategy combined with historical research and field investigation;Chapter 6:Reflection on the imperfection of design strategy and the prospect of the proposal.Through the collection and research from historical data and field survey,this paper sorts out the historical background,social culture and neighborhood relationship of Ningzhongli;on this basis,protection and renewal plans are proposed.Finally,through this protection and renewal program,we aim to solve the problem of poor living environment of its original residents while improving the historical features of Ningzhongli,and exploring more feasible solutions for the protection and renewal of historical sites with residential functions.
