Tactical Data Link(TDL)is a battlefield-specific network that transmits formatted messages over the transport channel using a specific transport protocol.Each tactical data link is designed for a specific operational scenario,and no one data chain can satisfy all operational scenarios need.As the importance of the digital battlefield increases,the need for multi-chain collaborative information sharing is gradually increasing.As a result,the need for multiple data chain interconnections has increased.However,the existing data links are designed in an integrated structure where the formatted messages are tightly integrated with the transport protocols,which results in the inability to interconnect data links that use different transport protocols.Therefore,data chain has a tendency to develop towards IP-based hierarchical structure,which is also the hotspot of current research in data chain at home and abroad.At present,the latest foreign data link has been designed using IP protocol architecture,but there is still no systematic method on how to interconnect with traditional data chains.The research objective of this paper is to propose a feasible and systematic IP-based method of data link to realize the interconnection of multiple data links.Firstly,we propose a holistic architecture for interconnecting multiple data links based on IP with reference to the idea of hierarchical IP networks to decouple the integrated structure of traditional data links.This architecture unifies the transmission technology of the traditional data link into the underlying technology,and adds a common network layer on top of it,which effectively solves the problem of non-interconnection caused by the heterogeneity of the traditional data link.Secondly,in order to make the traditional data link fit with this architecture and ensure the efficient operation of IP-based data link network,we designed each layer of this architecture in detail.In the application layer,the compatible application is designed to solve the compatibility problem between the IPbased data link and the traditional data link,and the tactical application of the traditional data link is classified according to the functional characteristics,realizing the precise positioning and identification,situational awareness,command and control and other IPbased tactical applications.At the transport layer,the rules for adapting transport protocols for different functional IP-based tactical applications are summarized according to the requirements of IP-based applications for delay and reliable transmission.Since battlefield communication networks require higher performance aspects such as end-to-end latency than civilian networks,and the transmission capacity of traditional data chains is limited,IP header compression techniques are applied at the network layer and rules for selecting routing protocols for data link networks are proposed to optimize the performance of IP-based data chain networks.In the data link access layer,the traditional data link transmission protocol is improved to make it fit with the IP structure.Finally,the formatted message of the traditional data link combines all fields such as tactical information and network management together,so it cannot be directly applied to the IPbased architecture.Therefore,we analyze and classify the classical M-sequence and J-sequence messages in the traditional data link.We fuse messages related to network management into unified underlying messages,and classify tactical messages such as radar detection into their respective tactical applications for management.In this paper,Riverbed Modeler simulation tool is used for modeling and experiments,and the experimental results prove that the multi-data link network based on IP-based multi-data link architecture enables efficient interconnection between multiple data links,regardless of the underlying transmission technology.ROHC compression algorithm adapts to IP-based data link networks with varying traffic requirements.By optimizing the performance of IP-based data link network,compared with traditional data link,IPbased data link can realize flexible networking of multiple data links in the acceptable range of performance loss.
