With the rapid development of Chinese construction industry, the difficulty in construction had increased, construction technology had become increasingly complex, and project claim had become more frequent.Compared with the contractor, the client lacked relevant experience and the project claim management level was relatively backward, which brought a sense of urgency to the client ’s claim management. At present, most of the theoretical studies were based on the contractor’s perspective to discuss project claim.Under such circumstances,it was urgently necessary to strengthen the contractor’s project claim prevention and management research, and helped the contractor maintain the legitimate rights and interests and resolved the project claim quickly and reasonablyBased on the above background, the paper summarized the research present situation of project claim domestic and foreign.By discussing contents, procedures, and insufficiency of the client’s claim management, claim management studies should focus on preventing contractor’s claim and dealing with claim. In the claim prevention study,Through the Likert five-grade scale scoring method, eight key factors were selected from the 29 chance points identified.Formulated the entire process of claim prevention strategies. In the processing of claims, according to the causes of claims, the claims were divided into three categories: engineering changes, engineering environment change and early completion. This paper also analysed the classification of responsibilities and the principle of claims. Finally, through empirical analysis of engineering,it was proved that the claim prevention strategy and claim processing scheme proposed in this paper were feasible, effective and operable.
